RTH - how far should the hand throttle move?

I removed my hand throttle because it wasn't doing anything. The square metal bar that has the knob on one end and the cable on the other only moves about 1/4" - not enough to hold the gas pedal in any useful position. It seems something is catching at the point where the metal bar joins the cable inside of the housing. Any suggestions?

Howdy! I haven't seen Slee's setup, but on other ones, it's just like a throttle cable on a lawn mower. If you release the wire from the engine side, you can pull the wire/knob all out. The outer sheath is secured on both ends. A clamp on the engine end,and a nut behind the dash on the cabin end. It probably has a kink in the line somewhere, or it might just need a shot of WD-40 on the wire at both ends. John

That's just the problem - the cable only moves 1/4" in either direction, so it can't be pulled out. I did get the knob off though.

it works plenty with that 1/4 of movement, it just has to be adjusted properly,

Can one remove just the black plastic knob so that the entire cilinder can move inwards ans free the lower instrument panel, without havinfg to disconnect the wire etc.? In other words, like the choke

Best

I think you get the knob plastic knob off and then unscrew the 'jamb nut'. Then the cylinder pulls through the panel. So, yeah, you can get the panel off and out.

Okay, but how?
I have tried to undo the knob like for the choke's knob but apart from being rock hard and unwilling to move, it has given me a sort of feeling to be on the point of breaking if I had pushed it a bit more

Do you want to remove it completely or do you want to get it so it works correctly? If you want to remove it completely, cut the knob off and unscrew the jam nut as mentioned. If you want to get it to work properly, it sounds like you need to adjust it so the slack is out of the cable. That is done by turning the nut on the adjuster sleeve mounted in the bracket on the gas pedal. Tighten (or loosen. I don't remember right now) the adjuster nut to the point that when the knob is pulled, the slack is gone and the pedal moves.

The black knob has a small hole in the bottom. Push a small screwdriver through the hole. This will push down on the metal locking tab, allowing you to slide off the knob.

After I removed mine, I had to rebend the metal locking tab just a bit to get it to lock securely again, as it flattened itself out a bit getting the knob off.... Kind of like a phone cord.
