Greg,
If you're pulling your head, try to rule out bottom end issues: do a leak down test first and take a really good look at your cylinder walls. Notice in some of my pics on this thread that there are vertical lines in the cylinder walls. Turns out these cause oil consumption and have slowly worsened my compression.

Now, I'm looking at an engine swap (another 2F) because a rebuild is not really economical for me. Had I known what was coming down the pike I wouldn't have gone through the head rebuild, new gaskets, etc. It was fun learning experience but frustrating that all my work is for nothing. Hope you have better results!

Yeah I did read that in there along with another headgasket thread that @Output Shaft linked in my build thread. I will rent a leakdown tester just to be sure but wondering if the blown headgasket will throw incorrect numbers (or does it really just test rings/valves).

I did have some oil consumption but that was actually coming more from the fact that my valve cover was only finger tight on so there was lots of oil that was seeping out the valve cover gasket.

A blown head gasket will render a leak down test worthless on the cylinders that have a bad HG.
