I wanted a PTO on my old cruiser for years, but there's a good reason Toyota discontinued making them: Electric winches are superior. The PTO equipped cruisers were good for running water pumps on 40 series fire trucks, but as a power source for a winch they kinda sucked. Also a big issue with them is the extremely long driveshaft that has to run from the transfer PTO box all the way up to the bumper. Not a good offroad undercarriage setup at all.
The first problem with mating up to the 60s PTO gear in the transfer case is finding a matching gear and box to mate with it. That's just the first challenge. Finding all the other necessary bits is the next gigantic problem.
I thought about PTO for a long time (off & on for years) and my final conclusion was: don't do it.
