I bought this 1980 FJ40 in WV by today’s standards it should have been parted out originally. The body was rough and had been patched together by POs but everything else was on the truck and not in that bad of shape. I have owned this truck for over 10 years and drove it for a few years prior to undertaking the restoration. I cut off the tub and recycled it; the tub was beyond repair since it had already been covered in plate steel and bondo. I used an Aqula Aluminum tub for the replacement, I did not use these cheesy metal plates they give out for later model trucks and modified the cowl to fit a little better. The doors were cut and new bottoms were welded on. The truck was white from the factory red when I bought so I had no problems changing it to Dune Beige my favorite cruiser color. I was part of the original Eshan Soft Top purchase a few years ago, because my hardtop was beyond repair. Parts of the soft top now are with fellow mudders and have been rescued. The body was shot on this truck but the engine and drive were not, the truck only had 70k on it and is fully smogged. Most of the extra parts bumpers, winches ect. have been purchased used and refreshed for service. I do have an IPOR bumper that was won at CMCC 07 that will be going on this truck over the winter. You will also see a pic of my 83FJ60. I have been into the 60s over the last couple years. Sorry for the poser shots I had to replace a brake caliper and the little tube was broken so it is waiting for a part. This truck is in Cleveland, OH the zone of no LCs they have all fell victum to the salt.
