The rolled rubber is soft enough that removing the masking tape - Kevin even cut it to the right length for each door and labled each roll!!! - did abraid it a teeny bit.
And this one is for you Steve!: (note the lack of masking tape:D)

lockers

i was wondering what kind of lockers your running. is that setup OEM toyota or aftermarket?

by the way i love your rig.

Oh, what a lob over the center of the plate. :hillbilly:
Meatsauce, what fuel tank are you running?

hahaha jokes on me. i should of stated the manufacturer of said lockers. if i wasn't a "rookie" and could tell by the pics as i'm shure most of you fine gentlemen could, then i wouldn't have to ask.

They're factory cable locked axles out of an hj that he rebuilt. They're sweet!!! The diff is much heavier duty than the stock axles.

Kevin is a modest sort and not one to trumpet his truck's virtues very loudly unless asked, hence my comment. He is proud, and rightfully so, of his vehicle and as OEM cable lockers are the bee's knees, I'm sure he will be glad to tell you about them, no joke - your question is well put. I can't wait to see the lockers and the rest of the truck this summer at the 3FE Bash.

thanks for the info, i'm new to the locker world and am trying to get all the info and possibilities out there. in the future i will be a little less vage with my questions. thanks fellas

I must've missed something, your question seemed logical to me.
As has been said, they are Toyota cable actuated lockers from an HJ61. The front bolted into the 60 series housing with a little bit a clearancing and two new studs, but the back requires a full floating axle (from the same truck) The system used to control the cables is overcomplicated and over engineered but they engage/disengage smoothly, on command and with a direct mechanical connection.

(and if you lock just the rear you can do doughnuts that would put a ricer to shame :D[in the snow anyway])

thanks for the info on your locker set up. i appreciate it

Just wondering, is that last pic in Colorado? Looks freakishly familiar to the Camp Hale area near Leadville. Rediculous truck man, that's so sweet. From Post #39 on page 2, I don't see the pictures coming up.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Hey Joel! yup, they are a recent addition, just kind of stumbled into them and couldn't pas 'em up. I still need to make a neoprene boot to cover the handles and the brake lever. (I have a nice plastic cover if anyone needs it)

I am unfortunately "in" NY, but can't bring myself to become a legal resident, still have an address in VT.

Here are some trip truck pics that have no technical relevancy at all. I will post some more when I dig up a few old cds.

No, I didn't.

:D Would you like to know?:D
Blue sea solenoid, aux switch in cab connects or disconnects when the truck is on, power to the switch is lost when truck is turned off, so it always disconnects the two systems when the truck is off.
Nice and simple.

Kevin,
Awesome thread.. I am from up where you live (somewhat), originally. Keene and Keene Valley and am formerly a full fledged east coaster. Wonderful build and incredibly well thought out. I love the vehicle and your approach with it. (also with the diesel). I love where you've taken it and its spirit. Cheers, Andre (the guy who wrote the other half of that OJ article on diesel swaps )..

No introduction needed Andre! And thanks for the compliment. You and your website have been a great resource over the years. I found myself driving through your [current] neck of the woods last summer and I kept my eyes peeled for any 55s in hopes of orchestrating a meeting!
Conrgats on the new job as well.

No worries and thanks, still haven't gotten that job yet though, we'll see though... I also forgot to mention I was a UVMer too... Funny the paths. Cheers Kevin!
