50/50 methanol and distilled water. Yes it burns. I have soaked it up in a paper towel and put a match to it, it goes up. That is why it is important to plumb it like you would a fuel system so you don't go up in smoke.

Plain water actually works too but it does not have as much cooling efficency, it does nothing to richen the fuel mix and it freezes in the winter :whoops:

Same reason Distilled water is used in Nuclear Reactors. Have to put a radioactive emblem on your window.

Nice truck, well done with all the well placed Toyota parts! You give me thoughts of a blower on my 93!

was your's really made for law enforcement, if so thats cool, was there some differances from the civilian vehicles?

Um, nope.

It's a joke actually.

Well, the emblem was made for a cop car though........ ;)

I stumbled onto this thing several years ago in my first issue microfiche. After that issue the reference was deleted. It also appears in my JDM fiche. Basicly it is a moulded plastic sleeve that occupies the space inside the LH quarter above the wheelhouse. The tool kit slides nicely inside it although I think it may not have been intended for that use.

Check this little pic ;)
This is the left side of my JDM VX cruiser - with sleeve and its filled with a Toyota tool kit and bottle jack. Where are they usually kept in US models?!

Nice cruiser...

The jack resides in the exact same place and the tool kit is retained by the jack band. In other words the kit is stacked on top of the jack and the band secures both.

Board members with a keen eye should study your photo because it also shows the non-US cargo cover mounting brackets and a piece of the cover. In addition your solid quarter window can be seen.

Was the cargo cover never offered in the US as an accessory? A local club member bought the cover as an accessory from the local dealer years ago.

No, it was not offered as a pre-packaged accessory. That does not mean the individual components could not be obtained to fit one.

as you already know Nice rig Dan

Dan does the JDM electric fan move a good bit of air? Usual Toyota quality? As for wiring does it take just power and ground or does it have more to it?

Not the question you asked but the factory wiring includes a pressure switch in the ac coolant line and a relay mounted in the engine fuse box. See the blank spot in your fuse box labled CDS.

Also doesn't look like he has rear jump seats.

Yes, on the RH side of the condensor. If you study the RH vertical edge of the condensor you will see two tabs with threadded holes. The fan mounts there and to the center grille brace.

My JDM has that aux cooling fan on the RHD side in front of the condenser. It is controlled by the AC switch. However, when I look at the rig upfront, I feel that the overall effect is not symmetic. The LHD side looks blank - with just the stock horns in them.

Am thinking of adding another aux fan on the left side to balance the look and fill up the empty space on the LH side (and get more cooler air).

Questions before I purchase one from a local shop here:
- can I just do a parallel wire tap to the wiring of the existing aux fan? Or should I have a separate wiring (complete with fuse/relay, swithc, etc.)?
- the extra cool air that would be generated is ok for the engine, right? More air, the cooler the engine bay becomes and hence good for the engine, right?
I ran this idea to somebody and he said that another aux fan is not needed since the condenser needs "to get hot" as well.

thanks,

Hi, Dan,

about https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=524764&postcount=17,
does it fit on my 1996's HDJ80 1HD-FT? and is it possible to buy it, & for which price? Do you think, it would be appropriate for Sahara travel ?
Thanks for your answer,
Luc.

It is difficult to photograph without removing the grille but it is used on vehicles with dual A/C and a cool box and it mounts to existing points on the condensor and center lock brace. I have it set up to come on manually with a switch on the instrument panel. That way I can bring it on line when ever I want. I like to be able to run it when the vehicle is being worked hard on low-speed trails.

I do not know if the condensor on that vehicle has mounting tabs on it. If it does then the fan should fit.

Any exra airflow in a hot climate is a benefit.

What is "condensor"? Air conditionning rad?

Yes.

Well; i do not know too; but it is always possible to do something, isn't it?
Is this assy still buyable? and what does it cost ?

The part number is 88590-60010. I do not know if it's available in France.

In the EPC's, I find 2 condensors, for 1996
-88460-60160, for single AC
-88460-60170, for dual AC, but not HDJ 80, only FZJ
...
So, do you know the difference, particulaly for this problem of fiting the double electrical fan?
