Bear Lake, did you receive your 43 yet? :bounce2:

by the way, if anyone sees a 43 Qt on sale, PM or respond to this thread if you would be so kind. It seems as often as i get over to the openboxdirect site, that would be faster (plus the alerts didnt seem to work for me)

Hey Murf, sad to say I did not receive it. I bought it and the transaction went through my bank account. Two days later I received communication that they could not ship the unit to me in good faith as it did not pass specs when they went through it to qualify it for resale through OpenBoxDirect. So I am still looking. They know their 'sign up for alerts' feature does not work but did not elaborate. To my dismay I would assume they would test a unit prior to listing it for sale, however to my delight they were honest and didn't try to ship me a unit that was questionable. I was refunded in full. They did try to sell me a brand new one but at only $25.00 off full price on the new unit.

Sounds pretty standard for OpenBoxDirect. It can be a lot of work to get one of these fridges.

At least they try to keep ahead before letting a customer relation issue turn south by shipping a bad product.

They shipped me a bad one, but corrected it. No problems with their customer service... Other than their purchasing system letting you think you purchased an item.

Does anybody know if this would work in a 24v system?
Cool I was curious cause in description it says:
  • 12/24 volt power lead: 6' detachable power cord
Beats me. Maybe it's capable of drawing half the amperage at twice the volts. Definitely a good question to ask before trying it.
The original series of compressors by Danfoss are 12/24 VDC units. So all the knockoffs are also 12/24 VDC. They have to use a step up inverter to up the voltage to the compressor motor voltage, and most power ICs made for 12VDC handle up to 32VDC at their inputs so why not make it also 24 VDC input compatible. Running on 24VDC it will likely use about 10% less power. Less is lost in the step up process.

Does that mean I can connect it to a 24v system?

The owners manual says "When inserting the DC power cord, make sure the input is a 12v/24v power source." So yeah, let's go for it. I guess the power supply is setup to handle it. All the models say 115VAC, 12/24VDC

Question though, does the power controller convert 110V down to run the fridge? I assume it's a 12/24 volt compressor.

I really hope to get more use out of my 63 in the truck this year than I did out of the truck last year!

Used my new 43qt this past weekend for the first time. I love how much smaller it is!! So much easier to load/unload. Appears to draw less power than the old 63qt as well.

I'm in love all over again :D

Keep dilligent!!

Took me about a year to finally snag my 63Q. Would have rather had the 43Q but no compaints. Runs 24/7 now that I have solar and NOCO battery charger installed. And it's wife approved now since she took the cruiser for a girls only weekend getaway.

Edgestar and washboard are not compatible. An edgestar lasts 2 weeks on Baja/south western unpaved roads.
Buy an ARB and love it long time!

Is it best to have it running 24/7 or unplugged? I take mine out when I'm not camping and put in my garage unplugged. Wondering which is better for it, running or resting.

If it's empty, I think unplugging and storing in a stationary spot would be best. It will cycle more if nothing is in it. The compressor (and other parts) will eventually wear out. Mine rides around unplugged in the back of my vehicle when not being used.

I'm not sure how lubrication works in these small compressors, so maybe not a bad idea to plug it in every few months when not in use. I turn my home AC on a couple times in the winter to run the compressor and so I know if it will work when I need it.

I keep beer and water in it. I keep two gallon jugs of water to help regulate the temp. If I know I will not need to use it for weeks on end I will probably turn it off. Right now I'm kinda testing how everything works (fridge, battery charger, solar).

Now that camping season is here it'll be used several times a month!

2 43's and a 80 are available. Someone better snag them fast!
