I think we’ve discovered the origin of the term

That’s over the top!

Man-A-Fre use to sell a simple kit to space the long just seat away from the tub. Early set I got in 74 for my 68 model included eight U shaped brackets. 68 used two bolts at each attachment point to the top of the tub, so four each side. This had the back arm rest off the wheel well. Then either needed to make a bracket for that or bend the arm rest. Later kit for the seats with only a single bolt used a larger U shaped bracket on the front. That angled the seat in more in the front so the rear arm rest was back over the wheel well.

I have a bin box of those old MAF ‘brackets’. They’re nothing more than DIY rolled metal strap. Anyone who wants some is welcome to them.

Simple kit or DIY :meh: Certainly less DIY then the four pieces of flat plate steel and four pieces of angle iron sold to mount the Smittybuilt roll bar I bought at the same time. As I remember I got two kits which were on a white piece cardboard with some printing. Had heat shrink plastic holding them on place. This was on 1974 so was a long time ago. When I talked to Marv years later he told he was working in the Northridge store and Al was at the ID store at that time. Obviously can't asking ask Marv if they made them, had them made or if got them from Smittybuilt. Second set I didn't get until 95 with a bunch of parts I bought. That had two small and two large brackets. Could tell the small bracket from the two kits apart.

That reminds me, Dave @lcwizard what ever happened to the 69 frame and tub I got as part of the those parts? Wish now I had the room to keep it at the time.

Still have it. I build cages from it. Makes a nice straight jig truck. I'll put it together as a runner someday when i quit all this. Probably won't be too long. I'm 60 this year. 30 years of building parts for Cruisers. My back says it seems like 50 years.

I too turn 60 this year. I have not been at Cruiser stuff quite as long as you. When I retire from my day job at 67, I will have to re-think my night job of building Cruiser related stuff. I would actually like to be able to drive and enjoy my Cruiser... 🆒

Youngsters, I gave up my day at 60. Likely I found a job at forty where I no longer had to carry A/C compressors up ladders. Otherwise I doubt I would be able to get out of bed. Today even see small companies hire a crane to replace a compressor.

Dave while I say I wish I had saved that 69 the year before I bought my 73 FST. Still have never even started the engine. Currently working on selling off five of my early project cruisers. That will at least bring me under ten.
