Hello all,

Quick one about connecting rod bearings...

I got a knocking noise in my 2H so did all the reading I could on here and rod bearings seemed the easiest to check first so I pulled the sump for want of anything better to do on the weekend.

I gave the rods a thorough jiggling and other than a tiny forward/backward movement (thrust clearance?) they wouldn't move up and down on the crank pin at all, as far as i could tell.

Obviously the clearances are pretty(imperceptively?) small but if it doesn't obviously move can I rule out worn rod bearings?

Where might i look next?

Thanks in advance

For the cost and effort involved, you should get some plastigage and find out more accurately what the clearances are.

WOW,,

2 h is ?? gas diesel ??
Gas pull plug wire off of dist cap (Please) and see if noise stops (running , but if i didn't state that ?) , if so trace wire to plug and count the cyl it is , THERE now you know the noisy one !!! Diesel , crack a fuel feed line to stop fuel flow to the cyl , same as stopping spark..

Now you can move forward, YOUR already in the operating room BLIND !!!

VT..

And it's called Bump Crank, measuring clearance without gum ,(plastic wedge)"new builds only,, Field dio , mag dial gauge and slight pressure shows true oil clearance.

yup, its cheap and easy way to check.

2H is a diesel, but what you are saying makes no sense at all... how is stopping the spark from a single cylinder gonna tell you anything at all? or on a diesel stopping the fuel...

it will tell you nothing other than if that cylinder was missing there would be no change in engine rpm and how it ran.

OK ..

Before you rip / tear into an engine , WE Diagnose , what cyl is the knocker ?? , So we can compare a non-Knocker cyl to a knocker. You could just have a bad nozzle / or / injection calibrate pump needed, being a Diesel..

Anywhos... I know what you are saying makes no sense at all... ;)
