Starting to map out the plan for my rock light install and curious what others have done. Mostly interested in WHERE you elected to mount the lights. Any pics?

I have the Baja Designs rock lights, so I’m not terribly concerned about durability or protection. I’m considering high in the upper wheel well as I’m more interested in trail maintanace lighting vs terrain visibility, but would love some advice from those who’ve crawled this path before.

I used KC Cyclones and they are mounted in rear mid and before front tires. 6 works for me. made my own harness wired to a factory switch. But I dig those BD lights you have .

@RFB I’m really digging the frame mount location in the rear.

I've got my own plans for rock lights with COB LED's, aluminum angle, and neodymium magnets. My goal was to make lots of light as cheaply as possible. COB LED's are cheap, weatherproof, and do not require a lot of current.

Stemming from @RFB rear frame-rail placement, I think i’m going to do the same location, but drill/tap two M4 holes directly into the box member. That appears to be the cleanest solution for the rear. Still runminating on the front.

I did just that, drilled and tapped the frame

And the fronts. Opted for frame rail, just behind the tow hooks. Should be pleanty if protection while still offering some solid illumination of whatever I’m about to drop into.

As for trail repair, I abondoned that. Decided that’s what a headlamp is for.

Does the ligth spread enough for you in this location? I have some rigid lights i planned to mount up. They came with a rubber base that you can use to angle out. Still trying to figure out where I want to mount them.

Aluminum angle attached with double sided tape to the inside edge of my rock sliders. 2 packs of 4 lights each cost $34. I made custom length wire and soldered the joints. I used clark connectors at each light to remove them and upgrade in the future when brighter LEDs are available. I also placed the lights to reduce the shadows from the tires as much as possible.

The lights are controlled by a remote control through a wireless relay attached to my pseudo QPM. The relay works really well but I want to redo the wiring.

8 lights total, wired into switch pod with 2 individual switches to control front and rear independently. The lights are magnetic, no mounting hardware necessary.
