Sweet, another tax paying dollar going to private use

yeah, it's actually a good thing in this case. those batteries sit forever and just go bad w/o being cycled every once in a while. many times it just gets forgotten, since we don't use it if ever. some guys run it down just holding the trigger to get a full discharge when it needs charged. i just held it up to my truck while doing it.

No need to get defensive! I do know how batteries hold a charge. I already lost one for my kit cuz I didn't use it. Besides joking about that there are bigger things to be concerned about if we really had a say in the matter. You did use your own blade though right? ;)

Anyways, if another dinner was wanted, I would not mind going if it was a bit later. As I rack up the miles on my 80, I wouldn't mind meeting Robbie ahead as to when calling when I need the work done.

Do we need to gather for dinner again? :hhmm:

You guys are more than welcome to meet again for dinner, but you may want to check with Robbie before you make arrangements. The second week he was here (the week after we met for dinner Friday night and had the Cruiser meeting Saturday night), he has been working late into the evenings (8:30 or 9:00) trying to get everything done.

He is not planning on being back here from Boulder until late Tuesday evening and he's still got a lot of work to get done. But the guy's still got to eat! Maybe he'd appreciate some food being brought to the garage. I will leave it up to you guys to figure it out. I will be heading up to Red River to ski on Friday and Saturday next weekend - it's the first ski race of the season.

Have fun!
Evan

P.S. Work update - Robbie got the front springs on Carol's 60 and they look great (2.5 inch lift with BDS spings and anti-inversion shackles). Unfortunately, the front springs gave him such a hard time, he hasn't had time yet to install the rear springs. The truck looks a little like one of those low riders with hydraulic suspension that's ben lifted in the front, but the rear is still low. But it will look great when he's done.

He has finished the Slee 4-inch lift on Keith's truck, and the front axle service. Next week, he will be concentrating on the head gasket.

No need to get defensive!

:D not defensive at all.

Robbie gets more done in a day than i get done in a week! i wonder if he'd be interested in installing my gears? they aren't Toyota though.

i call BS! i just used the firetruck's sawzall on my rig a week or 2 ago. the batteries needed cycling anyway.:flipoff2: i'll start a thread on it later when i get pics.

That's cuz you are an officer, and can call it training. If I was still working at 10 w/ya that might've been exactly what we woulda done.

Now if I can just convince my current Lt that we need saw training at my house once the snow melts....

Been out all week with work - anxious to see how it looks with the Slee 4" lift on. Since buying my 80 stock, this is what I have picked up for it so far:

Slee short bus front and rear bumper
Slee 4" Lift with front control arms
Slee tie rod and relay link
Slee HD rear control arms
Safari snorkel
Metal Tech sliders
Iron Pig Skid Plate
Warn 9.5 XP winch

Still need to get the BFG KM2 305s and some ancillary items: CDL switch, new battery, power tank, and assemble a few more bits for the recovery kit.

Ali has dibs on the flares since he is going to help me with some wiring. Once the flares are gone it will be line-xd. Hopefully at that point I'll be done for a bit. Going to be gone almost all of February, so probably won't be able to get it out until March.

Anything else I should include on the purchasing list?

Nice progress Keith! I really like your choices of armor, especially that front bumper.

That is some serious bukku dinero.....

If you are doing all of this, I might recommend either an auxiliary fuel tank or some on-board air in the form of a York belt driven compressor....

Heck, why don't you just do a supercharger while you are at it? All the cool people are doing it.

I'll tell you how it looks - very tall on those stock tires! You will need those BFGs soon, because it's just begging for some bigger tires.

Obviously, you are welcome to visit any time to check it out. It looks very good now and very different from when you dropped it off.

Once Robbie is done with it, you will have a Land Cruiser in great shape, mechanically as well as being nicely built as for armor and equipment. I think you should be pretty well set regarding your set up, at least to begin with. As you wheel the truck, you may have some other fine-tuning, but I think you are mostly there.

Having said that, what are you planning for communication? You will want a CB at a minimum, and most likely a Ham radio at some point. The test for the Technician level is not a problem at all, and it will be handy to have on the trail.

Communication? A CB? I was thinking of using old WWII Signal Flags and a light on top of the 80 to communicate in morse code.

My military mind tells me not to trust electronic communications since comm is always down when you need it most.

Just kidding.

I'll start with a vehicle installed CB (also have a handheld with NOAA that has worked well for many years) and maybe move up to the ham if the need is there. I have a set of Motorola GMRS radios as well, but guess those are only good if a few other folks have them.

I'll be stopping by later in the week with the rest of the parts, hopefully they will be here by Wednesday.

don't do it, its a trap!

Seriously!

But really Rory: you couldn't find the star wars "it's a trap!" picture? If I wasn't on my iPhone right now I'd so get it up here....

I am way too nerdy lately....

Dan

Not the actual picture, but bet I could recreate the scene with the playset....man were those fun toys. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't go out and buy that new Millennium Falcon.

Wow, I told a friend that I joined an off road club once and she said it sounded nerdy. Imagine if I told her about all the ham talk and I do offroad with geeks and nerds!
