Not that bad except when you're in a tight parking lot and swing the thing open and someone barrels down the lane kamakazi style and you hope they see it. LOL I too wanted the choice of a second spare or addition of a long range tank well maybe to look cool too? Actually I have toyed with the idea of pulling the swing out and just putting on when heading out but too lazy.

Such helpful advice on this 200 forum. Good group of folks. Well I went ahead and ordered anyways. I figured I’ll figure out the specifics somehow. James said he has built a few trailers in the past and he has extended the tongues before. Still gotta re hitch and take photos and measurements and compare them to the very great specs @grinchy provided above. See just how much extra I’d need. James said he can get going on the fab, and I basically have 3 weeks to tell him what specs I want him to make the swing out (s) to. Love working with small skilled shops like this. The trailer has made this slightly more complicated, but figuring out stuff is half the fun right? I do plan to do the install with 2 people I know here (1 who has a lift). Painting I’m planning on doing same as I did with my BudBuilt sliders and using rustoleum hammered finish so I can touch up myself vs powder.

What time would you say pulling the swing out off would take?

If the tire off probably less that 5 min, one man job. Just need to fab a sleeve to cover greasy spindle.

Does anybody have any thoughts on relocating the trailer plug? James is building my bumper now. Not sure if this is something i'd need to get a hole cut for, or if there is a better option. Last weekend my stock plug got bumped on a rock at some point, and i drove all the way home with no trailer brakes without realizing.

If he's willing to cut the hole I would have him do it. Mounting it any lower than the bottom of the bumper is risking a repeat incident IHO.

I considered it, the plug will reach, but I just didn't have the courage to drill the hole in my new bumper.

yeah looks like it'd be pretty easy. the cord does look like it'd reach i think. just take these two bolts off, i guess mount the black plastic triangle part on the outside? pardon the rust in my pics, so embarrassing

In case your kid opens the tire carrier with a mighty swing and shears off the end of the hold open pin here is where to get a replacement (per James)

New hold open pin received and installed. Old pin 3/8”, new pin 1/2”. Certainly feel this is less likely to shear. About $25 through EMS with shipping.

Not quite enough room to drill out the hole perfectly vertically from below, had to use a small dremel grinding bit to get it to drop in.

Otherwise a direct replacement.

Just a heads up, I just posted my bumper for sale. Been installed for ab 2 weeks and just didnt work out for as much as I am in and out of the back. Love the bumper, and Im sure ill be ordering another one from James in the future once my needs change.

Just take the swing arm off?

Still need a place for the spare tire. So I'm actually thinking ab downsizing tires as well to fit in the stock location. Currently running 275/65r20
I'd 2nd that notion. Still a solid good looking bumper even with no swing. Also curious, if you already cut the plastic bumper how are you even planning on putting that back on?
I haven't cut the plastic yet. Hence the almost 2 week trial period.

Well. Ok. For around town you could get a can of flat fix. For the mountains put the swing back on . I hear you though on the inconveniences of the swing arm. My wife hates it. And losing the auto tail gate is a small sacrifice too.

I didn’t look seriously into modifying the stock tire hanger as I wanted that space for something else, but I think with some minor work you could get a 34 under there.

As much as I want a LRA aux tank, I doubt I will ever install that swingout. I'm in the back of the truck too many times every day, getting something out of the drawers. That thing would really be a nuisance.

Time to get a hood mount tire carrier for the 200 ala Land Rover and Willy’s.
Or it could go inside like the old Cherokee.
I won’t be putting a 100 lb tire on the roof

From my perspective the hood is even worse than the roof.

Maybe a front bumper or front hitch mount? Not saying these are good ideas, just ideas.

I personally don’t mind the swing arm. Occasionally it will be a problem for access when parallel parking. Like twice a year.
