I don't think there are any tires you'll be using that are 24" in diameter . . . stock tire is a 31".

yeah we just got this trailer a year ago, and use it a LOT. No foreseeable plans to change this as our whole family camping/expedition setup is based around the trailer. My tires are approx 33's on rock warriors. future plans to go up to 34's. I left a message for the guy that makes my trailer, see if he has any ideas. What confuses me is guys that have jeeps, with the swingout rear door with huge tires, how do they work around this? I thought I'd heard something that max coupler (that makes my hitch) makes some sort of hitch extension. The nose box I have to leave there as this has all the electronics in it. The propane would be a pain to relocate, because it's plumbed through the trailer for the water heater and and the stove and bbq. That could theoretically be relocated to the rear behind one of the fenders. here is a pic showing where the 3 issues i can see fall. So bummed right now

OK time for 3 deep breaths and relax. I would suggest you observe other rigs and see how the deal with this issue. You will see many different solutions based on their needs and pocketbook. Believe me you are not the first to deal with this issue and won't be the last. Could be as easy as deciding a swing out isn't really that important.

breathing....breathing, thinking. hmmmm. (darn, i only made it 2 breaths). I'm still just curious how GX's with their big side swing door, or jeeps deal with this issue. I feel like every turtleback ad i see shows a jeep towing with a big tire swing-out on back. Now turtlebacks don't have the front propane, but they do have the nose box

Why don't you ask them when you see such a rig? Everyone I have ever asked about their rig was pretty open about work arounds. Sounds like a good reason to head out and find an answer? Besides it's cheaper to see how someone else spent their time and money.

Maybe post a shot from the side, but with camera at the level of the hitch point on your bumper so can see the relative height of you trailer’s lowest point... Hard to tell from this photo.

Can you open your tailgate fully?

i'll re-hitch the trailer tomorrow and take some measurements with the camera at the right level. I got some info. I spoke with James (at RLC). Super nice by the way. He said the what people have done in the past is extended the tongue of the trailer. He also said if i don't mind the tire off center he could probably shorten the arm by about a foot. For that arm measurement i could base off the Slee length with @Markuson kindly sent (38"). I then spoke with Ron over at Bivouac trailers. He said all his jeep customers have this issue. For them even worse because the whole door swings out. He recommended an extra long receiver that he said adds about 10". By far the cheapest option too. So, basically leaves me with a bunch of measuring to do, but theoretically still possible. I need to see exactly how much length i'd gain with the longer receiver, then see what the max length swing arm would be while pivoting on that axis. Thanks all for the help, I'll keep you posted. Nice to have a guy like James that's up for customizing and changing things around like this.

@DPA200 If you push the tire full passenger then passenger light will be blocked. James will need to add an additional set of locations for a driving / brake light in this case. The bumper comes with only one light location set, meant for reverse lights. I couldn't find any three way lights that fit into the prebuilt location.

my hope is with the extended receiver, and off center tire i could get away with it no all the way over, basically like the same as the Slee bumper, as not to block the brake light. Can't be sure til i hitch up and measure though

Ya, and Slee only comes one way.
Just to clarify for those who might be reading along... 38” is from the hinge point on the passenger swingout, which starts within the bumper-cover to the right of the tail-gate opening. So...the 38” includes inches that start farther forward compared with bumpers that swing from an externally-mounted hinge.

The other (driver-side) swing-out is only about 25”ish.

In case it matters...My 35” tire stays inside of its passenger swing-out arc (doesn’t extend past the length of the passenger side swing-out).

**Back to RLC-
It’s very cool that he will build according to your spec request.

I work around the corner from james shop. If he need to measure my bumper for anything, for your bumper, im happy to help. Just let me know.

You're correct you will have a problem. That means it's decision time, trailer (as it exists) or swing out. Access to the interior appears to be compromised with the trailer attached IMHO.
What about @benc rear bumper? Swing out is only half, much shorter but not sure how short.

The pivot location on an RLC is also as as far forward as possible (also under bump out on the plastic cover).

This might also be an option if the long receiver isn’t long enough. This could add another 18” to the tongue. Not sure if this would mess the weight distribution too much. I hear is generall a longer tongue is easier to tow, and easier to backup

I'll ask the obvious, what's the need for moving the spare? Several mfgr's produce nice bumpers without the swing out. To be honest having to deal with a swing out on a DD is a pain if you utilize the cargo area often. If I had it to do all over I would've done things a little differently. But then I would find fault with that solution at some point as my needs change.

My swingarm is also 51" total. The length of the arm that passes thru 23" from truck chrome / center (as per your tape) is around 38" from the pivot. So the outside of the tire has to be less than 38" from pivot. The full 51" length is 42" out from the chrome at the center (in line with hitch) in it's arc.

I did this with a stick and tape measure, so it may vary an inch or so. But it'll give you get an idea.

The LX chrome appears to be slightly different as well. Probably a better place to measure from is the hitch steel.

Stock bumper for me (for now) but a few of the reasons I would eventually like one with a tire carrier is:
1) easier to get to the spare on the trail
2) could finally hang my Trasharoo without it being bunched up on my Gobi ladder (silly reason for an expensive bumper!)
3) if I ever get take a road trip to someplace like Alaska, I then have the ability to safely carry two spare tires. I utilize my roof rack a good bit, I don’t want to lose any real estate to a spare tire. Plus add that type of extra weight that high.

With reason 1, not that I wheel often at all, I like the idea of it being on standby, ready to grab.
With reason 2, when a tire carrier is added, the possibility to adding other junk to it greatly improves. Hell, @Markuson added a table/platform to his. But yeah, I like the idea of being able to keep a Hi Lift and plenty other items back there instead of up on my rack

Good question. :)
Always good to ask basic reasoning Qs!

On the other hand...
I was curious some time back and actually timed how many extra seconds I take (without hurrying) to open the swingouts beyond the hatch/tailgate-only time.

It’s only 11 seconds at a leisurely pace...even less if I hurry. So really not bad.
