Rivian R1S vs LC thoughts? (2 Viewers)

Would you trade in your Land Cruiser for a Rivian R1S/R1T?

No japanese craftsman dedicated his life and honor to designing and building it. Its a cheap piece of plastic s***. Thats it lol
I think the whole “built in Japan” thing is just one big circle jerk. Speaking from experience my 4Runner doesn’t feel any more robust or well assembled than my Tundra did. I’ve also been in plenty of Tacoma’s, Camry’s, etc and they have a reputation for being rock solid, reliable vehicles as well.

What are your thoughts on the Audis other than that?
I’m curious of anyone’s experience with the 4 Rings as well. Not gonna lie I have been considering ordering myself either a new SQ8, RS6, or RS3. Figured I’d drive one of them into the ground for 3-4 years and then if that goes well get myself E-Tron. Audi has stated they will not build anymore ICE vehicles after 2026.

***Correction, no New ICE models will be announced after 2026. Whatever ICE in the lineup at that time will continue production up until 2033.

As for the trash comment. That’s referring to the fact this thread continues to clutter the 200 series tech section. The fact we’re talking about electricity production is evidence of that.
Fair play. Personally I find the most of the discussions on here informative and fun. It also gives various perspectives on things one may not have considered. Maybe there should be a slush thread for this type of stuff.

I will say this. If I were to choose between the two here and now I would absolutely take the 200 over the R1S. Like Anymal, I have cooled off on Rivian since seeing them out in the wild.

@JohnJB Only problem is there is no tech section…

Its an 80 club, 100 club, and a 200 club and a bunch of random jumbled up messes of other forums with low traffic lol.

I like to have discussions where i know everyones baseline is a 200. Just like this thread where we can do a direct EV competition comparison, and an EV complementary vehicle tangent nos that it’s clear a new comer isnt going to come in here and impress anyone thats in a 200. If there were another place that we all frequented and know each other where there is no sibling LC rivalry (LX / LC is enough for all of us i think) that would probably be welcome by everyone but there really isn’t such a section.

It was also very interesting to me how anywhere outside the 200 “tech” forum the 200 is considered a laughing stock… Not exactly somewhere I want to hang out all day lol.

or get after nuclear fission again

A little birdy told me that one of the big players is possibly, sorta, maybe, working on this as we speak 🤐

There is too much money in all that lithium to not figure out a way to recycle it.

I can't believe we are still having the "its all from coal anyway" conversation. It's amazing people have no idea where their power comes from, and people just say s*** and someone who already aligns with that view goes "yep see I knew it" and the damage is done.

VA sources from natural gas (57% (and produces half the emissions of coal)), nuclear (30%), and renewable (9%) sources. The remainder (4%) comes from coal.

Where I live I get the majority from nuclear.

The strongest argument environmentally against EV's is the unethical mining aspect, which no one had a problem with til EV's became widespread. Also like dude I have 3 15 mpg cars do you think I'm doing it for environmental benefits? Its just a nice perk of EV's.

Half of me doesn't care about the environmental part it. Maybe blasphemy but that's just being honest as someone that owns a LC/LX, aka pig.

EVs deliver an experience, performance, and drivability that is unmatched in more typical driving scenarios. While having big cost advantages.

Naysayers will do what they do, but EVs are surely making a dent in many sustainability metrics. Only more so if the comparison is a 200-series.

I don’t necessarily care either, but im generally not a wasteful person. If I can at the very minimum contribute to healthier air quality in town, thats fine by me. I mean, i might drink and have a smoke once in a blue moon (these days), but i hate having second hand smoke in my face. Not everything has to be a morality contest.

As I understand it is always generally more efficient to produce energy at scale, than to burn gas locally. And surprisingly TX leads the country in wind… now wether its more convenient? It really depends.

I would never pretend like anything can come close to petroleum / gasoline though in density and utility. Its just not even close. And batteries are literally in the stone age.

Wake me up when its all over.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I lived near their Venice branch so I saw Rivians on the reg.

I, for the life of me, can't understand how anyone can find that car attractive. The front end looks like a Disney animation reject. Add to the fact that it's rather untenable to add 35s/37s makes it a two-pronged non-starter of a vehicle for me.

I'm sure it goes well and rides well and is built well for a new gen e-car. But damn these things are going to have a short shelf life which is anti-LC to the core.

Thats actually pretty accurate! It does definitely have disney vibes. I do like the pill headlights, but of course they had to be edgy and do a strip across the front in addition to that neat design feature…

Over-designed for no reason.

Both Rivian and Lucid are losing massive amounts of cash. Lucid is barely holding on and only because of the Saudis. Lucid is so stupid, they are building a plant in Saudi where they will burn even more cash. Rivians deal just changed a little with Amazon. Amazon is committed to buy delivery trucks from Rivian but they can’t even fulfill the order. Same on the consumer side and based upon production orders, they have dipped…meaning demand is waning. Hence the reason Elon noticed both these companies could go bankrupt sooner then later. I hope not because Elon needs competition to be a better company as Tesla customer service sucks from what I’ve heard. Tesla is way ahead of the EV game while others struggle for batteries, he set the company up very well to not miss on the supply issue as others are dealing with now. His UI system and OTA updates is miles ahead of the game. Quality is also getting better and more efficient. I disliked Tesla for so long and recently test drove almost every EV under the sun above $50k looking for an alternative and compared not just the driving but the tech as well. Tesla was the winner for me. Big bonus, not having to deal with scumbag dealers trying to markup everything and spend half a day filling out paperwork even though I’m paying cash. Model X on order come June. The X drives amazingly and the sound system is bonkers. Can’t wait! It will be our daily, while the 200 is our adventure road tripper and severe weather mobile.

To be fair they are the closest thing we have to a “new LC” here in the states. They both have split tail gates and neither have CarPlay or Android Auto.

The lx 600 was deeply hurt by this comment.

As it should be! Don't like it? Bring back the tailgate, damnit!

The thing is an absolute joke! No tailgate with a jeep clone rear hatch. Sad product in almost every way.

Yeah, I'm way more upset about the lack of a tailgate than anything else. I use mine constantly. The rest of the truck is just 'meh' - reminds me too much of the GX

Ive never seen a die hard enthusiast community of any kind give less of a s*** about the next gen of whatever they’re into than i have seen here with the new LX 600.

Personally as soon as i saw it didn’t have a pano roof i was out. Its just lacking in every way. Dont even get me started.

In the mood to be an Askhole:

Im just 2-4 weeks out from ordering a model 3. I just dont see anything that can compete with it as a DD and an accessory to the LX.

i4 is just not it, and and im not going to go model s / eqs price range either. Not for a car i will just abuse almost daily i traffic over greater Houston.

Used prices make zero sense, which i truly don’t get. I might actually just lease it through my business.

Advice (validation) please? Lol
Hyundai Ioniq 6? Have heard really good things about them. Zero chance I'd ever buy a Tesla at this point in time.
