Just wanna source opinions as to what you guys would prefer. No full rear bumper for me for now to save weight and I don't think ill hit features way above my paygrade but I do run 35s. My car will be used for maybe 2 days camping a couple times a year and definitely some daytrips out in the mountains (Big Bear etc). Also no roof top tent for me as I will be sleeping inside or get a tent if im with the wife. I will definitely invest on some sliders (WhiteKnuckle as I used to run them on my old 100 series) and front bumper (ARB) to protect my front end.

Drove up to Holcomb Valley to escape the heat over the weekend.

Please feel free to post your spare tire setup as well.

TIA!

I have the spare inside my '95 80.

The disadvantages of a swing out are the inconvenience of accessing the rear hatch and tailgate. Also makes it much tougher to run a bike rack and access the rear.

The disadvantages of having the spare inside are the room it takes up and the smell of rubber when the tire is new.

After trying both, I won't do another swing out. Others don't mind, or even seem to prefer, the swing out.

I have a Dirtcom swing out on my Hilux and its awesome. Similar to the Rigd. I prefer a driver side swing out and only Dirtcom does that so it fit my needs. The Dirtcom swingout is robust and you can bolt on accessory arms so you could hang fuel cans in addition to the tire, the Rigd swingout is probably similar. The Dirtcom tire carrier was worth every penny, the space taken by a 32x11.5 inch tire inside the bed was intolerable.

Regarding my 80, i went with the Summit tire carrier as its light, bolts on, swings open on the driver side, and the price was nice. Made a huge difference on my rig, i have 4x4 labs cargo racks so i needed my tire on the outside.

Hope that helps.

I run the bellfab interior tire carrier and recommend it without hesitation.I'm on 35" mud tires and the spare fits great.

I will be ordering tonight. Did you get the molle panel as well and find it useful?
I did get the molle panel, and I find it useful in combination with a emu wing cargo window. It was a pain to access prior to that. It makes for quick access for some recovery gear and first aid supplies.

Somewhere deep in the mud forum is a tire carrier that I designed that bolts onto the rear crossmember. I’m meeting with my fabricator to finalize the design some 10 years after it’s conception.

I’d dig up that old thread but I’m 67 with no skills in that sort of thing.

I’m hopeful the release is just around the corner
