I'm contemplating some E load tires for the 100. For those of you who have wheeled both E and D tires on your 100, is there a substantial difference in ride quality if going to E's? I am hoping it doesn't take the 100 from smooth to bone-jarring. TIA
When I bought my truck, it had the D range BFG AT's, and I ended up buying the BFG E ratings about 6 months after getting it. I personally didn't notice any change at all.
I have always had 6 ply load range "C" on my other vehicles. I jumped from the stock tires to load range "E" 33" A/T's. I can feel some difference, but it's a good change. The worn out stock tires let me hear every bump I hit vs. the 10 ply let the shocks do the work. I like the 10 ply ride better than the stockers. You won't feel much, if any, difference. Go for it! You'll be glad you did!

I went from stock size Michelin Latitude HPs (35psi) - a "luxury SUV tire" to E-rated 275 BFT ATs (35psi). There was a HUGE difference... the BFGs were smoother, quieter, took big and little hits much better. I hit an expansion joint at 75mph expecting a sharp jolt. Felt like running over a shadow.
I like the E rated too. They take some of the squishiness and roll out of it. Also, if you are building onto it, all that weight can use an E on this pig. However, at 18 lb offroad, my tires hardly flex. The brand i run i known for super stiff and strong sidewalls though.
I went from Yokohama Geolanders (D rated) to Goodyear Duratrac's (E rated). I do notice a minor difference in ride quality. The yokos were a little smoother over bumps etc; but I doubt most people would notice that. I big difference I did notice is that the tires had crisper turn-in and cornering was nicer, albeit that could have to do with the profile dropping, and the tire size going from 16's to 18's. One thing is for sure, I'll never go back to 16's. I am considering going back to a D rated tire next time 'round.
I have enjoyed my switch from BFG 33' d rated to Duratrac 33' E rated. I think it is just finding the right balance of air pressure and comfort. I run mine on the road at around 42 psi and feel they handle very well and when off road down to 18 psi. I am on stock 16 inch rims and would never consider going to 18 inch unless I went up to 35s.
