Greetings land cruiser enthusiasts

My pride and joy has stumped me good this time. I am hoping that y'all could point me in the right direction. I have been having a minor, but odd, issue. It has seemed that the clutch is too tight or something and has not let the pressure plate fully release (ex. Needs a running start to get up hills and really tries your patience accelerating from redlights). To help the situation I have been releasing some pressure from the clutch bleeder valve.

Now it gets interesting. I have no idea what could have triggered this, but after a short drive I stopped in front of my house and when I tried to drive again she would move about a foot forward until it felt like a hit a brick wall and even threw me back in the seat. Same result in reverse. I immediately got out and looked underneath to see if something was lodged, broken, etc. Everything looked normal. Now it will not even move an inch in any direction.

The driveshafts look to be ok. and both can be rotated if the t case is in neutral. I can still shift into any gear so it seems the transmission is ok as well. Could this still be a pressure plate problem? Or could my diff be seized up?

Any ideas on what I should try or look for? Anything to help me diagnose this would be much appreciated. My other car is not cool at all and when the cruiser is on the DL so is my game with the ladies (dire situation here)

When you say it will not move an inch what do you mean. Do you let the clutch out with it in gear and it goes no where but the engine keeps running like the clutch was not engaged, or does the truck not move at all and the engine strains or dies like the clutch is engaged but brakes are on. If the engine keeps running normal with the clutch let out and it in gear is the drive shaft turning. Have someone else look from the side while you are in the drive seat without putting any body parts under or in front of the truck incase it is your clutch/pressure pate and it decides to engage.

Check for a dragging brake. I'm not sure anything in the clutch would cause it not to go forward or backward while throwing you in the seat. If it was a pressure plate problem you won't be able to go anywhere and it wouldn't have the ability to stop the vehicle's movement like you describe.

If you've got a dragging brake you could get a symptoms of a slipping clutch. Jack it up and see if the wheels spin freely.

Parking brake not releasing ?????:o

I don't think it's the parking brake...haven't had one since about '06. I can put it into gear and release the clutch and it keeps running like was mentioned above. Also the driveshaft spins casually, I haven't checked it while giving gas because of the aforementioned safety hazards.

I appreciate the responses

If the rear drive shaft is actually spinning and the vehicle is not moving the rear end has a problem. See if the actual pinion flange is spinning also just to make sure the drive shaft joint did not break or strip out, not that I have ever heard of that happening. Time to open the rear end and see what broke.

spins casually? as in intermittent or slowly or?

not sure the year of your truck, but say 75 or newer quick math tells us that if your in first gear with an H42 tranny (3.55:1 first) 2 high (1:1) and your engine is at idle of say 650rpm the drive shaft should turn at around 183rpm i wouldnt call 3 rotations a second that causal myself...... if its turning at that speed an no go something in your rear has s*** the bed and your opening it up.......

you also say that with the tcase in neutral you can spin both drive shafts? if the wheels are on the ground and you can spin the rear you got something wrong with the rear......

Yikes. All I really needed to hear was that I shouldn't be able to spin the driveshaft with my hand. Something back there definitely broke then. I guess it is something in the diff or the driveshaft itself. I will fine comb it tomorrow. Gentlemen this is a sad sad day, but I knew this was inevitable after so many years off asskickin and jeep eatin.

yeah if you can turn the drive shaft with the wheels on the ground you either have something broken in the diff or if open diffs a broken axle...... I'm going to bet something in the diff is gone and the brick wall you describe was probably a chunk of metal going through the gears...... dump the oil and pop the cover off and you will soon know what happened.

Also just re reading everything your chugging up hills or needing a running start smells to me like your clutch might also be done.... I would pull the cover and have a look in there also.......
