I've located a Japanese BJ 42 RH drive. What would be required in switching over to LH. New/used steering assembly, moving the column, ? Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks!

look at this way
- custom made front and rear bumpers
-winch
-front and rear lockers
-new springs

or having the wheel on the left side
just my opinion

You'll need a complete dashboard and all the pads, a firewall, steering column, Steering box, bell crank, two rod ends. Don't forget to swap the headlights too.

I wouldn't think you would need to change the dash. The speedometer and the glove box look identical to me.

I have a BJ42 RHD and I love it ,just got it 2 weeks ago ,took about a day to get used to RHD ,no biggie at all , in fact kinda unique and fun . I was worried about no power steering and that too is no big deal either.

Keep the RHD. It's fun. Wouldn't trade mine over. For that kinda cash you can have power steering.

KEEP IT!

I have been driving a RHD for almost a year now and it only took a few days to get used to it. Other than lots of double takes and comments about becoming a mail carrier it has been fine.

When I bought my RHD BJ42 about 6 months ago I was thinking of doing the same thing but everyone told me the same about keeping it RHD in which I did and I am very comfortable with driving it now along with getting all the strange looks. But if you are really down with switching it over I believe the makers of the TLC Icon had a LHD dash with cowl for sale in good condition?Rob

Yeah, keep it as RHD. It didn't take me that long to get used to driving mine - now it feels weird when I drive someone's LHD car.

:D

Yet another vote for keep it, I have had my BJ42 RHD for almost a year, and the RHD is something that never gets old. Drive-thru can be a little interesting, but I shouldnt be eating that crap anyway!

Keep it RHD. One easy way to quickly get used to RHD is to move your computer mouse to your left hand. After a few days you'll train your brain for LH coordination, and then switching between a LHD vehicle and a RHD vehicle will be simple and automatic.

Especially odd looks when you have large dog in passenger seat.

coul be funny to see in on the road .. could cause some accidents :D

When I got my BJ74 I had full intentions of finding a rusted out LHD BJ70 for the dash. One week after driving the RHD BJ74 I dropped that thought. It's been over two years now, and I am back and forth between LHD and RHD daily. It is a non-issue in my experience.

But if you feel you must, I would think the 4* series would be the easiest of all, followed by the 7*, then 6*.

hth's

Plain and simple it is much more fun driving a RHD. Any one who says it's hard to get used to should not be driving any cruiser period, and besides most of us are right handed(heheheheheheh)

Keep RHD.......become a volunteer mail man....
