I am getting closer to putting this thing back together and thought I would share a couple of teaser photos. This is my oil bath air cleaner that I restored and a few other parts. I should be finished in late July or August. I will post up some photos when it's compete.

Wow! What a process! I know several members here have built some fantastic 45's and my hat is off to you! I am now very aware of how much time and energy go into this kinds of projects. I know it will all be worth it when it's finished.

Just don't use the air cleaner... I have seen a few, they like to crack at the mounting screws and ooze oil and then the dust sticks to it.. Yummy.

I kind of question the effectiveness, mine I had never seemed to get the oil dirty but maybe mine had issues..

Beautiful, better than factory I bet!

Thanks Kief, yea I am not sure of the effectiveness either. I do have the same oil bath with the guts removed and I reworked the guts to hold the K&N. This seems to work OK. Photo attached.

I also just finished my 65 heater with a new heart core.

Kief, I will pm you my info. The fuel tank was in great shape but did have some seapage. I had a local guy in Ashland do some work on it and it pressure tested with no Leaks. So I am going to use it. I do want to get it out of the cab! It's funny that you ask about moving the tank. I think I will have a new aluminum one made this winter to fit under the bed between the frame rails.
 
Looks great. I. did the same with my heater recently. Finished it up and now the core is leaking. I guess 50 years of scale were keeping it from leaking before. At least it's summer, it can wait.

Is this the truck that is only a few numbers off from mine or a different one that is getting restored? Gotta see it next month when I travel down to Medford!
 
Yes, same one . It's a few off of yours. Let me know when your in the area. I'll be happy to show you. Also, FYI, I could not find a heater core anywhere! I ended up buying a core for a 69 and newer from Spector ( Cruisercorps was sold out). I moved the attachment clips from the old one to the new one. Worked great.
 
An oil bath air cleaner is actually a really good filter, vw has been using them since 1948!! A k&n lets alot of small stuff through!! But its hard to hurt an f engine, i think they like the ocassional bug or 2! I sure miss the 45!!
 
Whitey, I think your right. That's one of the reasons I wanted to keep it stock. Sounds like you sold my 45's sister to rustic76. We are going to have a reunion at some point I'm sure.
 
Zero Rust and no hidden surprises after media blasting, This doesn't happen very often with a Cruiser especially an Fj45. Gotta love naked Cruiser Steel!

Very cool, was considering the same modification to my oil bath cleaner. It's rust/crack free but I prefer the simplicity of the paper filter. Any more details on how you modified it?
 
Kurt, You can use the existing cone shaped insert but it needs to be cut down and a little welding done to fit the K&N. Also you need to Remove the piece from inside the canister that sticks up. The existing reworked cone shaped insert will fit into the recessed area in the bottom of the canister allowing the filter to sit on top of it and low enough to clear he lid.

A round flat piece of metal with a small ring ( same diameter) as the K&N hole tacked to it. See photo, I hope this is as clear as (MUD) Ha Ha.
