Currently have 70k on my 275/70 18 ridge grapplers and they're toast.
Stock wheels.
Any recommendations for new tires? Nothing against them, they have been decent off-road and on. A bit of tram lining but may be due to caster. Looking to see what else is out there that may be better. Also open to 285s.
Looking for a similar tire. AT4, Open Country, etc.

My favorite "next tire" choice is the Toyo OC/AT3

I think it represents the AT with the most aggressive tread pattern that still acts like an AT - quieter on the road
than MT's but still have a better look than other AT's that just don't look like offroad tires.

Every person I see who has them reports that they like them, but that's the same with the Wildpeak AT4's as well.

A lot of confirmation bias in the tire game.

And I'm assuming you mean 275/70r18 and 285 in your post.

I run tall/skinnies 255/85r16 But am looking to go to 295/75R16

I got the Mickey Thompson (see signature). I would likely NOT buy them again.
Really great, drive well, look good, perform great on rocky terrain and mud in the western sierras.
But I have the feeling they heavily increased fuel consumption due to weight and pattern.
I just ordered a 5th spare wheel from SCS and will likely switch to the Wildpeak AT. Runs great on my van for 20k miles

I have run the WildPeaks on an older Tundra and currently on my 23 Tacoma. Put the Michelins that came on the Tacoma up on the shelf for emergency purposes. The Falkens are a much beter ride overall... No complaints at all.
Due to cost restraints, I purchased a set of 265/70R-18 Vredestein Pinza AT back in March (650.00 for all 4 shipped) for my 2001 LX and have been greatly pleased (and surprised!) with the performance, handling, ride comfort and extremely quite rotational noise level. I also got a 40.00 Visa card at the time... I would consider these tires again once I finish my rebuild/restoration...

It's weird...There seem to be two different Pinza AT's being sold...one has more aggressive shoulders than the other. IDK maybe one is an older offering. Maybe one is a different load rating (LT vs. E).

The ones with the more aggressive shoulders look a lot like the Toyo OC/ATIII's or the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT

My wildpeaks never let me down. I like them so much I put them on my wife’s Jeep and after 65k miles put new ones on my 100.

They do offer a "regular" tire and an LT

I love my Wildpeaks. I went with 265/75R-16, I didn't like how the 285's caused some wandering on the weird asphalt ruts/channels we have on some local roads I often use. I'm liking the smaller size.
@Thunder90 I see you're in FL too, these do great in soft sand and torrential downpours when there's an inch of water running across the interstate continuously.

Are you saying 70,000 mi, why would you look for a different tire!! Show us a picture of the tire!
you don't want to see them. Trust me. :)

I am in the market for tires too so interested in responses.

Previously I have run:
Cooper STT PRO - current tires to be replaced, good mix of on-road and offroad but loud and impossible to balance
KO2 - Had these on my 4Runner and they were good, obviously lots of reviews out there
Terra Grapplers - I have run these 2x prior and liked them more than the KO2 simply b/c I thought they were better in the rain

So I had narrowed it down to:
KO3 or wait for the G3 grapplers to come out (in my size)

Anyone comment on if the AT3 worth the extra $ over the KO3?

I second that motion. We run those on one of our '99 100s and our '16 200 and love them. When my boys' 4Runner tires wear out that's what I'll be getting.

That said, if you really got 70K out a set of Ridge Grapplers then I'd be very tempted to replace them with the same tire, I've never had a set of tires on a Land Cruiser get me more than 60K and that was a set of BFG ATs that were *very* worn.

Seems like tire and shock discussions will always be around but the reality is everyone has a different opinion on these two things and they are all subjective to so many different things.

I've been through dozens of different brands in my life, just get any name brand tire that suits your driving style..... I've run nearly bald highway tires up extreme 4x4 trails plenty of times on some of my older rigs, you don't need a 10 ply mud tire to have fun

Graduate to Michelin Defenders - they will surprise you with their road manners and quietness and then will surprise you again off road as long as you are not rock crawling.

I tried the Open Country AT/III's, couldn't get or keep them balanced to save their lives, got rid of them with less than 35k, switched to the ridge grapplers. Currently have 55k on them and they really aren't even close to due to a replacement (5 tire rotation), getting louder though. After them, I might try the Terra Grappler G3 next for something slightly less aggressive and a smoother ride. Michelin Defenders are good tires for sure, but I wanted something more aggressive looking and with some sidewall protection for trails.

While I appreciate the sentiment of keeping things simple and using what you have, if something isn't doing it's job, it actually takes the fun out of it. I was running my old KO2s a couple of years ago, and they still had good tread depth, probably 10/32, but after 50k miles and age were just not as good as they once were. I thought they were still OK, but I got stuck in a couple sections off road that I really shouldn't have, and the final insult was when I couldn't make it up a bit of a washed out hill and needed my buddy to give me a pull, and a VW Toureg went right up. I ordered the Mickey Thompsons almost right after, and now I'm the one pulling people out.

To OP: I like the Toyos, and thought about them seriously. The Kenda Klievers look good too, as well as the Wildpeaks. I wanted the most aggressive AT I could get that still had good snow performance (so things like the STT were out). I like the RTs, but most of them don't have snow ratings, and the Duratracs I had were s***ty (cupped, never balanced, and eventually shreded a couple sidewalls, like everyone talks about). My only critique with the Baja Boss is the weight, going from 275/70/18 KO2s on stock wheels, to the 295/70/18s on Icons added 25lbs a corner, but it doesn't affect performance much.

My AT experience in my 100:
1st set: Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws 33s - quiet, great in snow, doesn’t wear fast.
2nd set: Nitto Ridge Grapplers 33s - noisier than my Wildpeak, good performance in snow/slush, WildPeak is better.
3rd set: Toyo Open Country AT3 35s - definitely more quiet than my WildPeak, grippier than any of my previous sets. No experience yet in snow/slush.

Incredibly subjective question. Go to tiresize.com, plug in your size and compare specs. Choose the tire that best suits your specific needs.
