Has anyone ever found a good replacement bench seat for the 84-89 truck? My seat sucks, and the wife hates driving it because the non-removable head rest pushes her head forward. It is in bad shape anyway so I don't want to recover it.

I do not want bucket seats, so please don't suggest that. We have a small daughter that rides with us for now, so I need three seats. Any ideas?

IDK, but if you get a replacement make sure it's out of a 4WD.

The 2WD seats are a good inch lower...

That and the cut in section of the seat is pretty large to accommodate the transfer case lever. I would re work the stock seat, it's just really flimsy, and the damn headrest situation. In Colorado, the Toyota selection in the junkyard is scarce, most of them are still serving duty in the mountains. I'll keep looking.

60/40 seat with adjustable head rests from SR5 buckets.

Over time the stock seat looses it's support. Both the seat bottom and back weaken. That means your back sinks in more and that bloody headrest pushes your head forward. It is possible to add some springs into the back and bottom to shore it up.

Some of the springs from my seat back are completely broken. There is a big hole in the seat back as well. Bottom line is, the truck is old. I will have to take to measurements from newer style trucks to see if the seats will fit. Might get rid of this truck anyway, time will tell--sad to say, it's worth more parted out than in one piece.

Finally found a good replacement. Turns out bkg and PAtoyota were right, found a 60/40 bench from a '96 Tacoma 4x4 with a manual transmission. They fit rather well right off the bat, the outside front bolts mounted right up, all the others had to be drilled, but no brackets had to be made because the stock brackets worked with a little tweaking. The new seats make all the difference in the world in the ride, the suspension on the seats is so much better it's almost hard to believe.

The seat belts also have to be transfered, because the fixed mount of the buckle is mounted to the seats. The shoulder belt ends fit in the factory bolt locations to keep them mounted solid for safety. The old spring retractors were external to the body and took up space behind the seat, the new retractors had to be cut into the body and mounted internal. I just held them in place and traced around them with a sharpie, then cut the inside of the body with a cutoff wheel.

I mounted the seats with grade 8 hardware and large washers so the seat frames would not pull out of the boy in the event of an accident, Although my toyota pickup sees mostly trail and firewood duty.

Niiice!!

Did you consider trying to fit a third shoulder belt for the middle seat? This would be my next step :)

Thanks!

Got that covered, the center belt from the tacoma bolted in with a hole drilled for the locating pin. Keeping the center seat for my daughter was the whole reason for not going with buckets. Granted, she'll only fit in the middle for about two more years, I don't like buckets because the center area turns into a trash can.

Oh, and the armrest is AWESOME!!!
