Been surfing the web now for a couple days looking for a new fuel tank, and have come up dry... Toyota wants 600 bones and I figured if I can buy an aftermarket one and paint and seal it from the start it should be more then fine but I can't even find an aftermarket one. I was looking to spend like $250. Mine is leaking in the back at the seam by the drive shaft so aside from cutting out the rust which I don't have the down time for I need a new tank. So anybody know of any options? If I have to buy the yota tank I will but I won't be happy about it...I also think this tank should atleast make it through winter so time isn't really an issue of needing to replace but it still needs to be found first

Get a used one from a parting out rig or maybe Jason at cruiseryard. Your close to cruiser solutions but they sent me two rotted tanks :/

Sucks but junkyards first move is often to puncture the tank to lessen hazard liability so thats usually a dead end.
The old oem tank lasted 20 plus years so isnt all that bad a deal.

Yeah I'm just trying to save money to buy a house so dropping $600 is possible but cheaper would be better. I'm not really looking for a used tank unless its immaculate. Most used ones I saw were still pretty expensive... I'd really like a plastic one but that seems out of the question. It's funny that every auto part website has tanks available for all land cruiser except the 80 generation

That's nice and all and they are near me but I don't really have the time for that. This is my only vehicle and the most I can have my car sitting is like a day and a half because of work. I don't want to buy a used tank.
They pull the tank ( I think ) and refinish it.

I've been making quite a bit of over time lately so I'll probably just end up buying the Toyota one, I'm pretty sure I saw one somewhere for $400 but it may have been for a 100 series. Thanks for the recommendations though
I’m sure my time will come with this same situation. I used the renew service
years ago and it went well. I had the chance be in the shop to see the process of the tanks being done at the time and thought it was great. Don’t have the same vehicle now though,and I assume you are keeping your 80 for a while. So a new tank is probably your best bet.

If you don't fill your tank more than 3/4 full & you park it at a angle with your front end higher then your gas tank, it won't leak. At least mine doesn't when I do this. Your part of the leaking gas tank cruiser club. Welcome

Mine leaks from the back at the seam by the drive shaft. Rust is separating the seam. It may also be leaking from the flange piece that the filler and vent tube go to on the tank. Both are pretty crusty looking. So I have to park downhill with a half tank lol. Its not like it's dripping fuel or anything crazy so it should last the winter

i know that time is a factor but why not send it out and and get it repaired. the nice thing with a metal tank is it can be repaired, unlike a plastic, the bad thing with a metal tank is it can rust out.
i had to look for a tank as well and tech discount will be about 500, your also going to want to get new filler neck on the tank, new hoses, new gaskets and new bolts for the filler and sender unit.

If I needed a gas tank the first person I would contact is @arcteryx. Anything used I have purchased from him has been nicer than advertised. He’s a good, honest dude. He also supports the community and is active on here.
While you may not want a used tank, a used tank from a non rust area is not a bad thing. It will certainly be cheaper.
If you are dead set on new ask the local dealer for a discount. My local dealer gives me 25% off. For most things it is still cheaper to buy from a Mud vendor but the dealer can usually have it in a day. Plus when their is freight involved like on a tank it can get expensive.

My local dealer would never give me a discount... Maybe if I bought a fleet of cars from them. There is a long story behind that. My cruiser is a 95. I had already planned on new gaskets, hardware, soft lines, and the filler inlet flange into the tank. Maybe even filler neck to all though I'm pretty sure I saw that Toyota doesn't make that anymore. So maybe buy used or refinishing mine if needed. And thank you for mentioning non rust belt parts. Most used parts around here cost an arm and a leg and they are rusty... The other thing is that this Is my first "nice vehicle" as in I'm only 24 and all my cars before this one were $1000 or less. So I've been really trying to treat this one nice with new/nice parts. But yes since you guys talked me into it I'll persue some different avenues for used parts thanks.
