Hi all,

I just replaced my fusible link and now my 95 Land Cruiser won’t start. I left the negative and positive terminal connected and just carefully removed the fusible link. There was a little sparking, but not much.

Most of the dash lights light up by the engine won’t turn over. How did mess this up easy job up?!?!

Did I blow a fuse?

Help please!

Needs to be super tight. You dont have any grease which I think improves contact. I salvaged the original grease on mine but I think dielectric grease would be fine

Did you remove the ground (and replace it) when you did the job?

I replaced the entire unit with an OEM bundle from wits’ end.

The bolts are as tight as I can get them with holding the fusible link case in one hand.

The wires are pretty damn grease free now. I didn’t save any of the old grease...rookie move. Can that cause the engine to not turn over?

Everything else happens, lights on, doors lock but it’s not turning over.

Btw I checked all the fuses and they look good.

Dielectric is an insulator fyi

Yep! You guys are awesome! Thanks for all your help. I forgot the starter wire, it was hiding besides the battery box. Thanks!
I should stop working on my truck in the dark.

Reconnected and it cranked quite a few times then started up with a very high 3k idle that has taken a few minutes to get to 1,000 rpms where it’s hovering.

It’s also starting much quicker and even starting with the remote starter.

Do fusible links weaken over time?

LOL. I've done the same thing a few times.
Fusible links can fatigue over time due to vibration. I change them out with every battery change. For an additional $16 every 4 years or so, it's worth it.

^^ this. Carry a spare and just replace and don't worry about it.
