I've search and didn't find anything on this specifically...

I've got an OME steering dampner that is leaking oil and I'm trying to get it off. No problem on the frame end bracket but I can't get the puller that I've got to work on the tie rod end. I remember that the guy that put this dampner on used a pneumatic hammer to pop the OEM dampner off. I'd rather find a puller that works however the OME damper is flush with the tie rod mount and I'm not sure how a puller would fit (I've tried a pickle fork and it just chewed up the tie rod bracket a bit, not enough room to slide it in enough to get it to wedge). Any suggestions?

Hit the sides of where the taper go in with a big hammer. A few hits around is how I got mine to let loose. Then after a few hits try the pickle fork again./

But I never had a pickle fork. Just hammered the bracket where it goes in.

I had good luck with the pickle fork on mine, maybe you need a smaller one. What kind of puller are you using?

I used a gear puller on mine (I know, wrong end). Did you take your wheel off for good access?

Soak it with Kroil twice a day for 3 days. Then use the other methods listed.

I had to heat one of mine with a torch and beat it with a big hammer.

Gear puller is the only way you can expect to be able to re-use the joint. Pickle fork or beatin on it will trash the joint. VETTE60's right, a pickle fork will be the least amount of work.

i believe i read in a manual that you are not supposed to use a pickle fork because it will damage the stabalizer... not that a big hammer is much safer...

you don't hammer the bolt, you hammer the holder of the taper. It should shock it enough to release it. If you have a propane torch heat the holder part up slightly then smack the sides of the holder. It will work.
