I purchased new roof drip moulding. It looks like the old moulding piece would slide out near the rear hatch but actually interferes with hatch.

Hopefully I do not need to remove the hatch to replace this.

Who has removed this piece before and knows what I am missing or doing wrong?

If I remember correctly, I pulled mine off by going forward. I had my factory rack completely removed to install a RR Pioneer platform. If you removed your factory rack, you can unclip the moulding through the rack feet cutouts while you slide it forward.

I am rackless, I did not try sliding towards the engine or front of the vehicle. Thanks for the info, although I believe you and I talking about different parts

I also want to clarify I have no roof rack I'm talking about the actual rubber moulding beneath the rack

It does not slide out, though it will slide a couple inches until it interferes with one of the clips on the body, if I remember correctly.

Instead it unclips by being levered out perpendicular to the body line. I was very careful with mine as I needed to reuse it. I can't remember which direction seemed best, whether it was toward the centerline of the the vehicle or toward the side. Either might work. But in your case, if you're replacing it then I'd just pry it out, basically. It's way more flimsy and bendable than the mounting points holding it in.

Are you talking about the long metal strip that runs the length of the truck and sits under the factory roof rack feet? If so, we are talking about the same thing. If not, what other molding is there that would come in contact with the rear hatch during removal?

This is fantastic thank you

For what it's worth, I removed both of mine by sliding them forward and unclipping the clips as I could see them through the holes for the rack feet. No moulding tool required. I just had to pull up on the back edge first to get the rear clip to release.

Multiple ways to do the job I guess.

My mistake😅, I now realize you were speaking on the right part. Thank you again for the information.

No worries. I started second guessing myself on what I did. 😆

Also, I was just trying to add the information in case anyone else is wondering how to pull it off. I went by the tips in this thread.

I kind of fed it backward into the space created by a half-open hatch as I worked the retaining clips.

Tune to 10:30 in this video:

Great video, thanks. Can I offer for viewers with an 06 LC like mine, the pry and wiggle up method on the end caps is definitely the wrong thing to do as they redesigned how the caps are held down. There are plastic tabs in a ring around the bottom, so prying up guarantees you'll break them all. Kinda need more of a pry horizontal to the roof, in theory. Even after the first one I still broke two more so maybe just be okay with throwing them away, and pry up

Anyone here just remove them altogether since your roof rack would cover it all anyways?

Mine were mangled pretty good, threw them away once they were removed.

I can get a new complete set of them which Toyota is telling me will include all six caps also for about 177 or so shipped and all. However I had two white retaining clips that broke but need to replace my roof rack anyways.

I’m thinking about just removing everything, cleaning it all out and going from there.

The adhesive holding the retaining clips down is STRONG!

Yes, but because they don't seem
to do anything. Haven't had a good rain though.

Every time I see your Base Rack I keep meaning to check ARB and send them an email as they have got to have a fourth foot for that front hole over the last set of factory threads there...

Looks good, thanks man.

Why is that fourth set of holes there? Was there a factory option that utilized those?

Sure was....

On my 2000 LC thats the front foot mounting location for my old factory rack.

Seems between the LX and LC depending on years 98-07 they moved where they were.

Some had a center foot that had a slip in notch where others had a couple bolts.

I think Lexus used the shorter racks to be absolutely sure they made them quieter.
