Windscreen/roof moulding causing leaking? (1 Viewer)

Has anyone ever just welded up the rivet holes entirely and used adhesive to fix the mouldings in position? I ask because I seem to be going through hell and high water to get mine installed and wondered if the answer is just to eradicate the issue permanently!

I have one hole that has been drilled out and is near enough 8mm, finding a suitable oversized rivet etc is going to be challenging, I'm considering getting it sealed up so it won't leak, however the tig welding option seems like something that would be more suitable. I also have a hole that is the right size but is dented in so it's more recessed, meaning a rivet won't seat correctly.

I'm not trying to be sacrilegious however we get a lot of rain and I see to be spending a huge amount of time, energy and money trying to resolve this.

Thanks

I have not thought about welding. I know that if you have just one hole being beyond tolerance, you could just fill that hole with mastic which is a very pliable butyl rubber and then rivet the remaining holes with proper OEM rivets.

Thanks, that's the current plan I think if this chap comes tomorrow, but just wondered ref. welding in case he doesn't materialise/I have further issues.

Side molding is a rain canel. Both on outside and underneath. When glued down, the glue creates blockages/pockets underneath. These blockages, hold water and organic matter, promoting rust.

Use two-sided tape on roof section of molding. 4 plastic coated aluminum rivets on sides, pulled in tight to "A" pillar.

I never let installed touch inside or outside lower or side molding. I remove and install myself.

UGH! After doing all the hard work so the tech could just show up place the dams on the windshield and install, turned out to be not so easy. Just took it for a drive and I have wind noise. So disappointed. Will call Safelite tomorrow to have them come back.

Well, I was mistaken about the leak. What I was hearing was the wind coming through th rivet holes. I taped up the rivet holes and the wind noise is gone. I didn’t think about them because it only made noise on the drivers side. Anyways time to put the molding on and rivet them up.
