How are the rear emblems attached? I want to remove them and wax that area then re-apply.

Very sticky gummy stuff. Use fishing line and floss them off while spraying adhesive remover every few minutes to cut through all of it. I just ordered the Black Pearl emblem kit so if yours are looking ratty and scratched up, hold off for about a week and I'll work out something with you. The ones I have on there now are less than 6 months old and are OEM chrome. They look brand new.

That's great. Thanks.

the best thing to remove that gunk is a 3M rubber eraser wheel that attached to a drill

heat gun/hair dryer and fishing line will quickly get them off. And use the 3m wheel. I wore my arm out using goo gone.
Here is what is left after the emblems are removed:

final product; I was removing gold emblems so I just upgraded to the newer style:

I didn't have to use any of that stuff. Just a little Goo Gone on a lint free rag and about 2-3 minutes worth of rubbing. It looked like the emblems were never applied from the factory. So good in fact that I had to spend a great deal of time with a level, tape measure and painters tape just so I could get the new ones aligned correctly. Did I screw up my clear coat in that area or something?

Installation suggestion:

When you apply the new emblems, consider leaving off the "Toyota" piece that goes to the left of "LAND CRUISER". There is already the sombrero right above all of that and it is kind of redundant. I did a mash up of the 98-02/03-07 rear badging and just left off the "Toyota" and centered the "LAND CRUISER" pieces. Looks a lot better in my opinion.

My concern is damaging the finish. I took of the dealers name off of an old Ridgeline I had and you could see where the goo gone damaged the finish.

I took mine off last year. The truck has sat in the GA sun for 11 years now and you can't tell the emblems were ever on. Yours is white so I don't think you will have a problem if you remove it and then get a buff done on the tail gate.

Should have left off the V8 logo.

Question, behind the main toyota emblem that is on the rear hatch next to the wiper, are there holes in the body? In other words, I can take some fishing line, zip that emblem off and no holes left behind?

What about anyone with a 03+ and the updated "Land Cruiser" plaque on the rear hatch, can it come off the same way, no holes?
