removing glued in floor mats (1 Viewer)

i have a 1975 fj40, it has floor mats that are glued in/ also been painted over, i wonder if anyone knows a way to remove them, because im going to get the inside line-xed. any help would be great

I think you are referring to the factory sound deadening material. If so, it is tar based and will come up once heated with a heat gun. Use a scraper to get it off once hot - it will have the consistency of taffy at that point. Once you get most of it off, clean the rest with a strong cleaner like acetone or mek.
 
Just did this, and had great results with a heat gun and a 2" stiff scraper. Heat from below, and then gently lift with the scraper and pull.

I cleaned up the remnants with mineral spirits, and don't think anything stronger is needed.
 
got them off with a air chisel worked like a charm, now im going to come cack with a heat gun and sracpe the rest off
