I'm finding lots of information about installing the rear quarter panel but nothing about properly removing the panels.
I have a donor with decent quarters and would like to remove them with as little damage as possible.
Cutting spot welds? Keeping it as close to the top lip as possible?
Can anyone help me with a link to a good thread or video?
Thanks
I had taken measurements off a mint original body to determine the height from the top to the bottom of the panel to get it placed right.
Forward vertical edge: there is a bent vertical lip that is bolted to the vertical door frame. Take the four bolts out of there. There are a few spot welds down low, and a bit of a vertical weld on the top at the seam which is visible.
Wheel well: these spot welds should be visible from either outside or inside. Use a spot weld cutter drill bit, I did mine from the inside.
Top horizontal: depends how much of your quarter you need to replace, but the ccot replacement panels place the seam along the lip where the spot welds are that is just below the horizontal box tube that the hardtop sits on. This gives it good support and good backing to reweld. It is a good place to cut and splice.
Rear at the tailgate: again, depends how much you need to replace, you can wrap around the corner, or splice vertically on the rear panel. Look at some pictures of new replacement quarters to get an idea.
