Removing cone washers

Try hitting them or the hub itself from the side as well, that helps to knock them loose.
Might as well soak them down with PB blaster, couldn't hurt.

Pounding has always worked for me. :\
 
I just spent the last few days in the same situation. Those cones seem to show up in way too many places.
After four hours of beating I was able to get about 75% of my cones out (I was also doing the Birfield housings and rear full-floaters). To get the remainder I forced to use some creative hacksaw/drill/chisel/stud-extractor techniques. Here's what to do:
1:Take a hacksaw and saw as far as you can through the offending stud about 1/8 of an inch out from its base. You will need, at a minimum, to saw at least half of the way through. This may take a while. Those studs are pretty hard. If you have an air operated cut-off tool it may speed things up.
2. Use a chisel to remove the stud entierly, just like cleaving a diamond. Position the chisel right down the saw cut and strike hard. I was able to make a nice clean break.
3. Carefully make the center of the stud stump with a center punch.
4. Using progressively larger drill bits, drill out the entire stud to a depth of about 1/8 of an inch. Be mindful of the taper of the hole and don't drill into the hub body itself.
5. If you have a set of the reverse-threaded spiral-type extractors use them to get the cone to move. It only takes a little movement and they'll come out.
6. If you don't have extractors you can use a small chisel to drive the uppermost portion of the cone's edge toward its center. Again, only a little movement is needed to release the cone.

In my case someone had gooped up the cones with some sealant so they didn't want to come out easily. Perhaps you are in the same situation.
Hope it goes well. Just pay attention to your drilling and go slowly.
 
Oh yeah, you'll need to order some new studs, obviously.
 
Tap on the side of the hub flange w/ a brass hammer in a circular pattern (base of each stud) - you want to create movement in the flange. Sometimes it takes a couple times around - that gasket doesn't want to let go if it's old. This should loosen at least one washer (keep nuts on end so you don't loose them ;)). The more that come off - the faster the others come. If you don't have any luck w/ this - sometimes you can also tap on the exposed part of the washers w/ a flat brass drift (or screwdriver in a pinch)...this has worked for me...

loosen nuts to the end of the stud and wack the nut/stud with a rubber mallet.

also, try driving a screwdriver down the crack of the cone washer.
 
I had the same problem on my mini disc conversion there was enough threads on the aisan hub to double nut the stud and back the stud out.
 
Find a screwdriver with a strong and very small end. Wedge it into the split portion and twist. That or beat everything with a rubber mallet like a gorilla on steroids Until they loosen a little.
 
Warn hubs typically do not have cone washers....
Did you take off the "locking" section of hte hub already?
 
I've had good luck using a brass drift the is 5/8" diameter. I tried using a thinner one and it did not do a good job.

Mace is right-no cones on Warns, unless they've been modified. How about some more info?
 
Hmmm, don't like the sounds of that ???

Yeah, I had the locking section, it came off easily enough w/ the allen head bolts.

Couldn't get the hub body off though after removing the 6 nuts and lock washers. There looked to be some little slits in the area around the stud, but I could be wrong?
 
Did you take off the C clip?

Slits around the hubs probably were from the lock washers.
 
Could you post a close-up picture or two? We have to be missing something. I used to have Warns on my '76 and once the nuts were off and the c-clip pulled off the end of the axle, they come right off. Maybe the PO glued both sides of the gasket between the hub and the lockout. Try whacking the hub body with a heavy rubber mallet.

I do not see a Warn lock out in any pictures on that site....
