Any tips or tricks on removing these metal clips without breaking the plastic pins?
I am building my own side panels and would like to keep these covers.

(Maybe I should just make some custom covers)

Yeah, that plastic is so brittle on the original air vents. I have managed to remove those clips before however, the new OEM air vents come with new clips included and are cheap. Seems easier and less headache to just get new ones.

You know of any us-based source that won't cost me a fortune in shipping from overseas?

Honestly no. I looked up the part number 62821-90K02-B0 in partsouq and the shipping is pretty cheap to me but personally it is the kind of item I throw into a bulk order of many parts. It seems I was wrong that the clips are included, not sure why I thought that. You can order the clips separately using part number 90183-04046.

dremel tool cutoff wheel.
wet things first so cutting the metal does not melt the plastic studs.

Much experience getting rusty and frozen things to come apart.

Curious did you ever get these off. Looks very much the front door speaker grill retainers. Two very small screwdrivers to pry each section that pressing against the plastic shaft would do the trick. Then to reinstall just flatten back down before pressing in. Using a Dermal sounds like a lot of work and destroys the clips. Plastic stud breaks just glue it back on. These are not structural. Playing around upgrading the audio in my 89. After replacing the passenger's front door speaker noticed all four of these laying on the ground. I had already put the door card back up. When I finally decide on permanent speaker will reinstall the clips. That includes glueing the single stud on the one clip. For now they are in a pill bottle in the center console. The grill is holding by itself stuck to the vinyl. I've owned since the early nineties. I Know I the driver's grill off. The passenger side probably not. Personally think you find this clips in a pick and pull off some Japanese vehicle.

Yeah. I would never use a dremel to remove those clips. My intention is the least amount of damage possible during disassembly of anything. Never know if you will need to reuse something on these vintage cruisers.
