Quick question for those that have done this swap. I am working on a 2001 lx470 and the AHC (auto height control) system is going to be removed an an old man emu suspension installed.

Specifically I am wondering if there are any issues with removing all of the AHC components on the frame rails, etc and still being able to move the vehicle? It is an east coast truck and I am doing some rust repair right now and coating the underside and would like to first remove all the globes and crap before doing the repair and undercoating work. I just want to make sure I can move the vehicle once all that stuff is removed. I am thinking it should not be an issue as the suspension will still be supported by the torsion bars and rear springs. All I need to do is be able to move it.

First time doing this swap and I wanted to make sure there are no issues with the computer system, etc when all the AHC is removed.

Thanks!

Noah

How far are you moving it? Remember, in an AHC suspension, the TB's/Springs only support 60% of the weight. The AHC supports the other 40%. Without the AHC, you'll be on the bump stops. Probably ok to move around a parking lot. But, I wouldn't drive on the road.

When I did mine, I simply drained all the fluid from the bleed valves and siphoned out all the remaining fluid from the reservoir. I removed the line fittings and crimped them. Then, I did the suspension swap (shocks, tbs, coils). Once that was done, I then removed all the AHC components. FYI, the lines on top of the frame rails are an absolute b**ch to get to. The way I did it is the way probably 99% of the people do it.

also disconnect the TWO AHC module plugs under the steering column. One to the ECU and one to another controller module.

thx guys, saw this guys videos that helped alot.

I also spoke with Christo @ slee today. He is sending out an OME kit. I am going to remove all the AHC crap today including the reservoir, globes, lines, etc so I can kill all the undercarriage rust with phosphoric acid and then paint. I should still be able to move the car. Not driving far. I disconnected the AHC 50a fuse in the engine compartment fuse box, the 15A fuse in the front kick panel (ahc-b) and will also pull the ahc plugs from the computer today. Can the computer just be removed?

I didn't remove the computer in mine. Just pulled the fuses and removed all the globes, accumulator, reservoir, pump, height sensors and lines. I guess you could remove the computer, but I've never spoken with anyone who has done that.

Having done this to an east coast truck. Grab a fan, sawzall and just cut straight through the top bushing on the shock. A rusted top shock nut is a pain. You will be engulfed in a lovely blueish haze of burning rubber and note that the shock will still have a little AHC fluid left inside even if you drain the system so try to keep it from compressing.
