This is going to sound really stupid, but I just changed the batteries in both of my keys and my keyless entry / lock feature works with good distance for the first time since I bought my L/C (2004)!!:beer:

I had changed the batteries once before, but both must have been weak. For the last five years, the range was limited to a few feet from the driver's door for the last five years. I simply thought it was a crappy design.

Just now, I walked forty feet away and hit the button on both remotes and they worked!

CR1616 is the right battery 3V, at least for the 1999 Model Year. This # is printed within the key itself, if you are wondering, just open up your key.

This is kind of a mini-epiphany because this has been a sore spot against the vehicle for years.

Now I'll be able to find my car in the parking lot, too! :grinpimp: :grinpimp:

My key works. But I still forget will I park!

I might have to change batteries soon. I thought the range was bad too, maybe it's my bat.

I experienced exactly the same things on my '99...
And also asking why it never works like that before
Unfortunatly, my happiness didn't last... return to begining after 2 weeks (around 10 to 20 "open/close" by day)
Still better as before, but only ten feet around the LC
Hope it's gonna be better for you

my homelink will open my garage from FAR away, way farther then the other two vehicles with HL.

Has anyone done the grey wire mod on a 100? Not the taco thing with the locker, but the 80 kind with extending the antenna? Here's the 80 write-up https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/233963-grey-wire-mod-extend-alarm-remote-range.html

the thing's under the driver's seat on an 80, anyone know where it is on a 100? I haven't looked, and it's cold outside..

It's in the driver's kick panel area. I tried adding an external wire to the antenna inside the control unit but it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

Hey cool, thanks. I may give it a shot.. my range is pretty poor right now, but I'm going to try the battery thing first and see what that does.

Use your head guys!

Literally. If you find yourself at the outside edge of your remote's range, try placing the remote against the under side of your chin and using the lock/unlock buttons.

It actually works but I have no idea why. I guess you act as an antenna similar to holding on to a TV/radio antenna?

Staggrlee, good to see the 'heads still using thier heads...
Seriously thats a new one, but my wife will think I'm just too lazy to change the battery if I suggest that one. Ha ha, always great tidbits on 'MUD.

^^ It works too... saw it on Top Gear!
