MD/VA Caravan post

Please let us know if there are any changes or if anyone is joining ....

So here is the Wednesday Caravan plan that a lot of us have talked about…
My hopeful goal is to get there between 4:00pm and 5:00pm…ish. So we can setup before its dark and relax after a long drive down.

Wednesday 24/04/17
Meeting Location: Southern States gas station at 13655 Beverly Ford Rd Elkwood VA 22718
Departure Time: 10:00 AM That means LEAVING the Station then NOT ARRIVING THEN!

This is a nice big place where we can all fuel up our tanks and park off to the side. The station has nice clean bathrooms and a good store for any snacks / food / drinks for the road.

Along the route we will be swinging through a little station called Shady’s Place at 151819 Thomas Nelson Hwy, Lovingston VA 22949 to have @davidp14 join the group. It is a small station with 2 pumps right off the road and a small store as well.

Somewhere along the route we will find lunch and of course fuel once or twice… I figure an hour or so of stops along the way.

I would recommend that we should all top off before getting to the campsite as the only local place for fuel is the Eldorado Outpost around the corner but it is a 4 pumper and the only game in town so it can get busy! They do have a good size camp store and ice as well as hot food which isn’t bad but again it's the only game around so it isn’t the cheapest either.

Everyone will end up there though since you have to buy your Trail Passes there. So I would suggest that we swing in there BEFORE going to the campground for a final top off and ice run if you need it and get our passes so there isn't an evening trip or a rush in the morning.

The Campground address is:
US Forest Service RD 1154, NC 27371

I will be leaving RVA around 0900hrs for plans to arrive by 1400hrs just in front of you guys. I have been tasked from the BBRC crew to "save" spaces for us. With that in mind I don't want to infringe on the regular CLCC crowd and where you boys typically set up. Any way that you guys can show on a map/sketch where that might be?

Once you enter the campground area, you'll see the bath house overhang right there as you drive in on the right hand side. If you go just past it you'll see a smaller lower field area. That's where we usually put our tents

I will be heading down 95 from Richmond. Unknown time of departure. I may end up working some that day, hope not.
I'm planning on leaving Fredericksburg Thursday morning/noonish. Want to caravan? I'll be in my 60 though so understood if you'll be in a faster plan!

I plan to head out around 7 am. I have two others. If that is good for you we can meet along 85. Think we are going to stop for breakfast once we get past Petersburg.
Two trailers and an 80.

Well its getting to be that time again.... Relic Run 24'

Just under 2 1/2 months away!!!

I guess its time to get people looking ahead and seeing if they can make it.

My travel plans are fairly fluid at this point... When I leave is up for debate, but I will arrive at some point on Thursday. I will travel on my own down 95/85. However, if you fantastic humans are ok with it, I would love to have the option of caravanning back with the group up rt. 29. Sounds wonderful.

put the cargo box on the Lexus tonight... tent, canopy, solo stove and wood already loaded up.
tomorrow will be the bulk of everything with the food going in wend morning...

Crab cake batter being made today to vac seal for the cooler...I'll saute' them up on Thursday in some Kerry Gold butter so they'll be nice and warm for serving! Looking forward to the caravan down tomorrow!

Food and clothes are the only things left.... on my way to get the 5lb propane tanks topped off and to grab dinner before hitting the food store for the last bits!

see everyone BEFORE 10 am for the caravan!!

As I was caravanning I didn’t pay a great deal of attention to the club campsite. Now that I am not, I have to ask where it is. So, where is it? Any suggestions for how to find it? We have gps coordinates or anything?

the red circle is where we normally try to set up and claim as our own
