Well I have finally made some progress. With the help of a couple freinds and a couple of weekends I have managed to turn my large pile or rust into...well a somewhat decent interior. I still have a long ways to go.

I'll post up some before and afters but the pics I have taken are not that good. Basically some 14GA steel (I bought a 5X10 sheet and went to town with the sawsall).

I managed to fill some of the welds and cracks with Bondo...I know but this is a beater. Then I put the first coat of Bed liner on that I bought a gallon of at Walmart. I'm going to have a lot left over I think.

My favorite Mod thus far is the tranny tunnel. Looks like a casket and is fitting as I left what was left of the old one under there. I have to help my freind build a bumper next weekend and put the 4" hells creek lift kit on so probably won't have any updates for a couple more weeks (At least on this section).

Ohh and yes I will be rolling the paint with Rustoleum Hunter Green and white top.

I know the pics aren't great and I will try and find some better before shots. I took out everyth single thing except for the wheel wells, the tank section, and the mid section which was surprisingly good.

Ohh and the rear corner looks way better in real life. I cleaned up the curve on it after that. Not to mention with the bumper that last guy built for the rear it is completly covered up so I wasn't worried about an exact replacement.

Yee Haw Whimmy Diddle, that looks better than a 3 legged cat trying to take a piss in the snow...

Sorry man, thats my best attemt at redneck lingo, Im working on it..

yikes:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

haha,

Sure it looks bad in the picture but it will get better. It was getting pretty cold and late. I will continue on up the firewall and I figure I would spray paint the seat mounts.

It needed a whole new tub so I'm glad I was able to save it and have a place to sit now. I'm really no redneck but the rebuild is on par from one of the jokes you might hear.

Give me a few more weeks and I will have something work looking at. Hopefully it will drive...needs some carb work and brake lov'n. I'm ahead of my goal to get to Tellico in April (probably stay on the sissy trails) but I'm glad I'm making forward progress.

Wow. You have alot more ambition than me. I scrapped my 3/4 tub and it wasn't even close to yours. good luck man.:wrench:

Well the first one was my rear bed. Nothing left there. I did have the cross member though that I was able to take the air chisel too and remove all of the old metal and reuse. I need to move it further up the frame rail though as it is a bit low. Either that or drill it and put a few carriage bolts through. I have not gotten that far yet.

Second picture is my tub I ordered :D 5X10 14 GA. Way more expensive at $180 than I thought it would be. But that place had never screwed me before (machine shop) and they gave me a free peice of 2.5 square tubing for my sill for free. They have made tools and parts for me for free in the past so I can't complain.

Last pic is with both welded in.

First picture is of the Passanger side. I only had to cut out the front and parts of the side. Not the best job I did but it will keep me from falling through and all the mud out.

Second is all I was left with with the drivers side.

Third is my 3 peice drivers side. I used some left over angle Iron I had as the mounts for the back and what was left of the actual supports underneithg. Looks pretty covered up. After the mud (I sanded it down after the pic) it looks like one piece just bent...ok not really but at least a 2 piece.

First pic is of the rockers on the Passangers side. I bent the rear corner forward about 1/2" to give myself some more clearance on the rear tire and welded it all together. Took me a few peieces but I got it done. I ground it all down and will put a light coat of puddy....slighltly more than light in a couple of spots where the PO loaded it on.

2nd pic is what my garage would always look like if my wife didn't insist on parking in the garage. That is my 56 that I have spent the last year rebuilding. Rigth now that is the 6.2L that is going to go in the cruiser some time down the road. I just needed a place to put it for the time being. But it will have to go when I go to pick up my Cummins 4bt for it here in a couple weeks. No hack job on that thing. Well it isn't perfect but it will look respectable.

Last is just a shot of the beast with the spare tire on the window down as the regulator is torn apart and the mirrors riped off. She is a real bute.

I will do my best to keep it updated. I hope to get the lift on this weekend as well as all the body work done and maybe the first coat of paint. I'm using the roller method.

I like these builds too as they go alot quicker when you are not so worried about asthetics and more about function.

IMHO you might want to sandblast that frame if you are going thru with this. Esp. since you are removing so much stuff.

Ohh I thought about it. But I didn't want the project to end up like my 56 sitting there next to it. That has taken me a year so far and I don't even have the engine in, or all of the body work done. I know it is the wrong way to preserve a cruiser but I really want to wheel this thing. Plus the first time I roll it over or run into a tree I won't be so angry that I only spend a few weekends on it instead of an entire year.

I'll have some more updates this evening really late after the stupid blow.

Well,

What can I say. You can't polish a turd:p.

It doesn't look great but it is green now and it is without rust which is a good thing (well mostly).

White top, and mostly the same color green. I need to find a closer green spray can to get in the cracks as the rustoleum I bought is not the same color. Good enough for me. I will take some pics next weekend, as I had to head off to the super bowl a bit early tonight.

I would call it a 15 foot paint job ..maybe a few more :)

Just need to get the thing running and stopping and the wiring done now. Ohh and maybe some new tires and my lift kit on. Damn project never ends.

Maybe I will have to get a temp permit for the OBX.

Ohh found a land cruiser roof rack this weekend. Too bad it didn't quite fit as it must have been off of an old Iron Pig. I will have to make some custom mounts next weekend. Can store a lot of cargo in it though as it covers the entire roof.....which I like a lot.

Well,

Nobody told me my tank wouldn't fit :)....I never looked at it when making my tranny tunnel. I just took it out of the back of the rig when I bought it. I remembered it being a lost smaller. :frown:

No biggy though. I just need to notch out a section and I can put the tank back in. Just a couple more hours wasted is all.

Here is a highly modified picture (it was dark) of the rig. She looks about as bad as she does in the picture.

Goal for the weekend: (I have to do this to keep myself on a time schedule) Is to finish all the little body work like tranny tunnel, paint, install tank and associated fuel lines, and of course get the lift kit on.

I am scared to tackel the real projects that will make this thing usable, like all of the vacume lines for the 4WD and ohh yeah getting it to run more than 10' before dieing.

We will see though. The neighbor wants me to help him tow a VW bug project home and the wife wants me to go shopping. Something about I promised her. I must have been drunk.

Well everything conspired against me this weekend. Even the beer in my fridge froze . But I got a little work done none the less.

I was able to hook up my diaphram on my transfer case with new lines. I found some good tubing to hook up the smaller metal lines and then used 3/8ths fuel hose for the other part. Provides a great seal. Of course the metal line was so old and brittle it broke on my. But I was able to push out the line and very carefully weld it to the fitting. After blow tests for air leaks and approved I was able to finish it up.

I also was able to put in my tank and route some new line up to the fuel filter with some 5/16ths. She isn't pretty but it worked.

I had to do some more modifications for the seats and the fuel tank (needs a bit more work) but I was able to get it all in. I just need the fuel spout rubber hose and I can fill it up and actually use it.

I did some work with a razor blade trying to get all of the old overspray off from the previous owner. I got a couple of windows done but have a long ways to go. I finished painting the interior (back half) and was able to clean up my seats and borrowing some bolts from my doors get them bolted in partially. All seats are in now. But they all need to comeout one more time for one last coat of bedliner.

The sun visors went from black to a nice clean tan. I was pleasantly surprised as they were in good shape. I also got the bezel on (upside down :flipoff2:). It is just sitting there as I don't have any screws for it. As with most stuff since it was all rusty and had to be cut off or snapped on its way out.

The winch came off (can't get it to run). I think I will probably just sell it to someone who wants to screw around with it more than me. I have all of the controls and cables but most of the cables are broken on the ends.

I have a 4 day weekend so hopefully a Carb rebuild, my lift kit, and building some custom mounts for my roof rack will take place. That and a little touch up here and there.

Sorry there isn't much to look out. It was dark out again.

OMG! Flip that bezel or I might just screw up your soft top order.:flipoff2:
