Ok I,m sure I'll get alot of flack for this one, but since Ive been proven to be an idiot on this forum more than once its ok with me.
why cant I just flush it like dad used to :hillbilly: open radiator and engine block drain, drain all the old fluid into a container, start engine, turn on heater keep filling radiator from the top with garden hose and run the truck till all runs clear, turn off truck let all drain out and refill with coolent and distilled water? I just did about 1 hour search on this and found 1 person who did this with seemingly no problems

I don't know if you'll be able to convince the thermostat to open up if you're providing a constant supply of cool water.

Howdy! Some folks have good luck using Pool Cleaner(muratic acid). But I would NOT recommend doing it ON Vehicle. They usually drain system, pull radiator, pour in acid, slosh it around for a minute or two, drain acid, rinse several times with tap water before re-installing on rig. I have NOT tried this one myself. John

Unless you remove the thermostat first from the thermostat housing, all you are going to do is flush the radiator and overheat the engine. Flushing is so simple to do the right way, I just don't see the sense in saving time with this redneck flush method, but, if yer gonna do it, make sure to remove the thermostat first so flowing water gets to all areas. HTH.

Wow - that is scary. I worked as a pool cleaner for a while in high school. Gave it up when it didn't lead to getting laid as in half of the movies out of LA. Did you ever see what muriatic acid does to nylon? Back in the day those jogging sneakers were all the rage. A drop of the acid would just make the nylon disappear! I would not try this on my truck!

Yeah I tried the acid trick on my yugo and she ran like a rocket ship after that, but anyway decided to do it the right way...just finished
thanks as usual for all the excellent info on this forum
also took the hose to the radiator fins, you wouldnt believe the dirt I got out

Did the acid trick on my old 60, and it worked. Tomorrow I'm cleaning the radiator on my 80, but I am not doing the acid cleaning, it is not that dirty;)
