you might be misunderstanding me. i am trying to find out if there is someone out there that has experience with Tighe Cam. when i spoke to them they said that they grind one 12ht camshaft every month. the newly grind camshaft will open the valve longer and wider. i am trying to find out if there is someone out there with direct experience with that, it terms of it's effect to the engine. more power, lower get, etc?....thanks:cheers:

I can't help you with any experience on the Tighe cam, but i'll be watching this closely.

I do have a 2H cam laying around here, but i never had the guts to swap it into the 12HT. It's my daily driver and i would hate to swap it back if it doesn't work out. It seems like a lot of work and i didn't want to risk it.

Injection pump?

My question is, should i have my injection pump rebuild? is it worth the money to do that since there is no issues with it? i believe it will cost about 1,200 dollars to rebuild it. that is the estimate given to me.

i am also concern that it gets put back correctly since. having said that i will be taking it to a reputable IP rebuilder here in Los Angeles.

someone have ask where is my engine getting rebuild, so i want to share that. here is the link Eddings Engine Rebuilding Inc., Remanufactured Engines Gas and Light Diesel, High Performance Engines, and Marine Engines. i was just told that my block and cylinder head checked out ok, i am just now waiting for a "shopping list" so i can order the parts with proper specs from Australia.

yes, it will get balanced and match ported (that is the smoothing out of the intake and exhaust), valves and springs will be replace as well. this guys build performance engine so i think i will get good result.

on the performance camshaft, i am gonna pass on that since no one have responded to my post that has had experience and dyno result.

Why don't you have the pump tested to see if it delivers within specs. You can decide if it is necesary to rebuild it.

thank, i will get it tested. i was not very clear on my question. i am really trying to figure out whether a IP with 400km should be rebuild because of the KM it has in it, even if it tested within the specs. because something will go wrong sometime soon.

It's probably less of a headache to have it rebuilt now than on the trail somewhere, especially with the mileage it has on it.

I had mine checked and no rebuild was needed. They adjusted it back to spec and then some. But no parts were replaced exept the priming pump. Just to be sure. Mine had 360 K on it at the time. If you have the chance, have it checked and adjusted back to spec or a bit extra. If all the six cilinders get the same amount of fuel injected, it will run so much smoother.
If i recall correctly i was charged 275 euro's, but i'm on a different continent so i'm not sure if that's even close to your shop rates. And it was around four years ago.

HTH,
Mark

thanks, that is helpful. it cost 500. dollars here to check it, plus more to adjust. but i think getting it check and adjusted will be worth it.

up date on the rebuild

Hi Amado. Graeme here, hows the build going? Cheers

Hi Graeme, all is good one of the cylinder will have to be sleeved. i will be ordering the rebuild parts soon from sms diesel including the sleeved. i have given up on trying to get a performance grind on my camshaft because i can not find anyone with dyno result on it. all the other stuff will be done match porting, balance etc...

i am now looking for a place to source a rebuild kit for the IP in case it has to be rebuild, my current plan is to get it tested and get it adjusted to spec.

here are some pictures below, notice the scars on the cylinder head from the bagging of the piston ring that came off.

does anyone knows the number of the OEM color of the block?

sorry for the quality of the pictures they are taken with an iphone.

question on rebuilt

the rebuilder of my engine is asking this question wonder if anyone out there knows the answer;

" I can't find the connecting rod tunnel size in the manual that you provided me. The tunnel size i need is for the big end of the connecting rod where the rod bearing goes. I just e-mailed craig hoping that he could provide me with that information".

in summary, we are trying to find out the inside diameter of the large end of the connecting rod that connect to the crankshaft.

if you know the answer pls let us know..... thank you

1. SMS Diesel from Australia Diesel Engine Parts Quality Replacement Parts Vehicle Spare Parts thanks you Craig for all your patience and help over the last year answering all my questions as i find a place to rebuild my engine.

2. Eddings Engine Eddings Engine Rebuilding Inc., Remanufactured Engines Gas and Light Diesel, High Performance Engines, and Marine Engines. i live in Los Angeles, Ca. as you all know even thou this is the city of freeways and cars very few drives around with a 12ht engine and not many engine rebuilder are very interested in rebuilding them. i want to thank Gerry at Eddings Engine for taking on this project. my experience have been great!

3. Graeme Bentink Offroad Caravan Hire in Perth, Western Australia on the ih8mud he is one of the guy who seem to always try to push the envelope on the 12ht. he spend a year trying to get me to turn up my fuel and when i finally got the guts to do it i never looked back since then. now i am following progress on the new hi flow turbo he is building.

4. John at Radd Cruiser Customization and Restoration Professionals - Services For Restoring 4x4s - RADD Cruisers, Duncan BC John had made a number of entry on my build but i honestly did not know he was actually running a shop. he has already given me a couple of much needed specs.

Lastly, just want to thank the ih8mud community for the guidance you have given in this build that never end.

match porting 12ht cylinder

i am getting ready to match port my cylinder head. my question is on the intake side. it seems that on the intake side there is no need for match porting to the intake manifold. i just need to smooth out the intake on the cylinder head correct? any other suggestion you may have on match porting a 12ht would be appreciated.... thank you:bang:

can't help but geez i thought you would have had this motor buttoned up by now?
