Hello all,
I currently have a 2000 LX470 that now my wife will be driving and she wants me to install a rearview camera for her. I looked at various systems and I have narrowed it down to wanting a wireless system for ease of installation. So i wondered if anyone can chime in on their thoughts about this system?

7" Mirror with Bluetooth and Wireless Steel CCD Black License Plate Frame Backup Camera Backup Monitor & Camera - Tadi Brothers

Of course I would like to install a new head unit with GPS and LCD built it but I am thinking it might be $$$ to have a professional install it for me. Of course if anyone can recommend a place in queens that can do it for a reasonable price, I am all ears.

Thanks,
Ken

I just mounted a cheaper version wireless camera for around 60 bucks and less then an hours time. see my build thread for details. i use it to make sure I don't back over anyone including kids , bikes or pets. It is not the greatest camera but has setting for adjustments and has a pretty good field of view.

If I ever see the scene from the pic on the box in my rear view, I'm gonna freak out. How do you get mom, baby, perfect background and perfect lighting just before running them over?

How did people backup 10-20 years ago without these... jeez!

Says they guy driving a leathered-up, seat-heated, cruise control-equiped... truck with auto-up windows, voice-activation... Progress baby! Progress! ;)

I think it was something along the lines of: "Hey son, get out of the truck and see what I just ran over!" or for the progressive crowd: "Hey son, get out of the truck and make sure I don't run something over!" At least, this is what I grew up with...

I think they are necessary. I had a back up camera in my 08' Sierra, I started to back out of the driveway and for some reason looked at the am era. I was inches away from running over my 2 year old son. Some how he followed me outside and walked behind my truck. I would never have forgiven myself. Never again will I be without a back up camera. As a matter of fact I am planning on installing one in the wife's Suburban.

BBQ - I agree wholeheartedly. My wife was friends with someone who had this exact thing happen, except the dad did roll over their daughter's head doing permanent damage. It also cost them their marriage. Not trying to make light of how important it is to know where you are driving these days, especially when you have small children, but 20 years ago the necessity was to have someone help you back up or you ran over stuff. Even stuff you could not live without.

I need one too.

That's terrible and hate to hear that. That's exactly why I like my camera. One less thing in my life that should not be a sad story.

So I finally got the backup camera but now I am not sure where to route the cables from the camera to the reverse lights. Just from looking at the rear lower hatch door I dont see any kind of holes that I can pass the wires through. Does anyone have any idea where I can snake the wire thru to the inside of the truck so I can splice it to the reverse tail lights?

Thanks!

That is really scary. My neighbor killed his 3 year old daughter a few months ago in this exact same scenario. It is very very tragic. I would deffinetly put one on mine if i had kids.
