Rear window switch

Does anyone know how to repair the safety switch for the rear window of a 78 pig? Currently, the window switch is disabled in the up position. Good since it is cold, but it prevents the use of the tailgate. Is there a fix to put the window down prior to replacing the safety switch? Thanks in advance for any assitance.

safety switch or toggle switch on the dash? you can bypass the safety switch.

So basically, are you saying I can disconnect the rear switch and just run the toggle without the safety?

yes...if you search here, somewhere, someone wrote about how to bypass the safety switch (mine works, so i didn't pay too much attention...sorry).

What exactly do you mean by the "safety switch"? The dash-mounted toggel switch and key-operated tailgate switch are wired in parallel and do the same thing. The only "safety switch" that I know of is the switch that is made when the tailgate is closed. it's mounted in the upper left corner of the lower tailgate opening in the body. When made (ytailgate closed) the switch points close and complete the ground circuit to the window motor. Unless this switch is bypassed the window shouldn't go either up or down without making the switch. If your window works with the dash mounted toggle but not the key switch there's something wrong with the key switch, and vice-versa. if you read my article in Trails awhile back about these windows it's explained pretty clearly (if I do say so myself). Rear window fixed.

The rear window was stuck in the closed position. The key to fixing the window was to remove the two tabs at the bottom of the window. This allowed the removal of the window. Then I was able to open the tailgate, remove the safety switch. Resolder the wires then reinstall. I also readjust the safety switch stop. The key switch at the tailgate works. Thanks for the help!
