My cracks are getting bigger:mad:

Took it to Toyota last week and they have ordered new glass for both sides. What a stupid design for such an unstable piece of glass.

I can't decide what to do. My dealer has also ordered replacement parts. Do they replace the entire window or just the trim piece. Mine came from the Gulf States and has that stupid VIN etching, so if its the entire window, I guess I will pass so I don't have a mismatch and risk more rattles and squeaks as a result of the dealer fit and finish issues.

They replace the entire window. I can't beleive they haven't done a recall, but what that tells me is the cracks cause no harm and they probably just replace as needed if the owner catches it before warranty expires. The window is unstable as it is, so I don't think it's going to create more rattle issues.

I wouldn't worry about the etching not matching. Is it on all windows? I had that on my 4Runner, but It was only on door jams and such, as I recall no windows.

Yep, every damn window in the bottom right corner. I am in a smaller market and could not find one to my specs without going to Atlanta and most if not all of their units have the VIN etching pkg.

When I say rattles, I just remember something Jim Chow posted about what had to be done to replace the window per the FSM. Removing second row seat anchor, rear interior panels, etc. just to get to the window. Not sure I want to be the guinnea pig at my local dealer.

Saw the new LC200 at the dealer last week while getting my SS brake hoses installed. I looked for the trim piece at the leading edge of the quarter window. None! It's been replaced by a narrow rubber strip. I noticed that on my '01 honda prelude, the quarter window (doesn't open) also has a narrow rubber strip. Seems Toyota knew about the design flaw in the 100's quarter window when they designed the 200.

Maybe, but they are missing the last 25% of the window.

Yeah, it is involved and as much as I hate rattles, I would rather track one of those down than try to fix cracks in the plastic.

Hey, maybe Toyota actually improved the structure of the window on the later model years just before the 200:hhmm: I doubt it though!

This might be a good application for a self-adhesive auto molding applied right over the cracked plastic.

well, thanks very much you guys...

now every time I walk by the truck I see this enormous crack right in front of me...

:)

I know people are concerned about appearance but what is the big deal? If the windows aren't falling out because of it why complain so much. I know this is going to aagravate some but LC people 100 owners especially are too picky. Try driving Jeeps for a while. My 2000 with 110,000 miles has less problems than my jeeps had at 40,000 miles. Its like the problems on LCs are magnified because there are so few. Right now my biggest worries are a crack in a plastic molding and the mere possibilty that my front diff could possibly break someday. All in all we have it pretty good. When I drove jeeps, I knew everything WAS going to break and usually did at the worst possible time.

Good perspective!

edit: I will say, however, that part of the problem is the price. When you're paying around $40,000 MORE for a Cruiser than a typical Heep, then you sort of do expect perfection, no matter how irrational...

The same can be said about Land Rover and a few other high dollar brands that have way worse problems. Anybody heard of the Toureg?

One Problem After Another« » 10:30 AM 1-23-2008
I have a 2004 V6 Touareg that I bought in August 2003 in Denver, CO. I lost count after the vehicle had been in the shop after 50 days. It was in for over two weeks because of a bent windshield wiper bracket! The problems I’ve HAD and have been fixed by the dealer under warranty include the remote distance issue, tire wear, vibration at 45 mph, compass, windshield wiper failure, rear liftgate sensor, front differential replacement, and many other small things shortly after delivery. I was NEVER offered an extended warranty and when I asked for one, nobody would sell or even quote me one from the dealership. I tried to work with the local dealer here in Jacksonville / St. Augustine (O’Steens) to get them to give me a warranty based on all the problems I’ve had, but never heard back.
The big reason for my post today is that I’m at 59,000 miles and I’ve just developed a slew of NEW problems. The problems I’m currently having are:
1) The car stalls every once in a while, while stopped at a light. Just stops running, nothing changes, but the engine stops – there’s not even a check engine light, just a battery light. It doesn’t do it all the time but is up to about twice a week now. I can’t tie anything to the stall – it just happens.
2) There’s a cooling problem. I’ve replaced the engine temperature sensor on the back of the engine (near the thermostat) that everyone seemed to indicate was a problem with the radiator fans running. I was also getting the P0118 (I think) engine warning “high engine coolant temperature”. There was never any indication other than the light that there was a high engine temperature. The gage inside indicated 200 degrees. Right now things seem to be working OK, but only time will tell.
3) The right headlight on occasion will flicker and give me a “Check Headlights” warning on the instrument cluster readout. I took everything apart and reseated the connectors. It seemed to work, but the problem came back. It’s better, but doesn’t seem fixed.
4) The steering seems a little flaky to me. Occasionally, the car seems to jerk in a turn. I had my girlfriend drive it and she didn’t notice anything. So, it’s probably the roads. Just seeing if anyone else has noticed this, or it’s just me.
5) There seems to be a noise/vibration coming from the transmission, almost like something is flapping and there’s also a little whine. It just started today. I haven’t even tried to troubleshoot and we’ll see what happens on the way home from work today. I’m not going to go into details about the difficulty of changing the oil, the way the car eats tires or the fuel economy. I’m just frustrated with all the problems I’m having

. Oddly enough, when it works right, I love it though.

I’m hoping that somebody else has had these problems and know the solutions. Any advice on how I can deal with the dealership or VWOA and maybe get some relief on these problems would be much appreciated.

The point of this thread was is bring it to peoples attention in case they wanted to get it fixed under warranty. Most on here who own the older model years could care less either because they actually care less or because they know they can't do anything about it. Go spend 60K, discover a crack in a years time and see how you feel then. I know I don't like it, but that's just me.

The problem is more with holding companies accountable. Toyota has a great product, but are losing sight of taking care of their customers when they change the design on something and it doesn't work. I would much rather have the 80 slider window in the back! This pop out is a weak design and the glass is very unstable and that's why they are cracking. Try closing your door with the window open, it sounds like it's going to fall off. Toyota fixed the molding on the 200.

I wonder if they strengthened the mechanics of it along with fixing the stupid molding??

My point is this. These are daily driven vehicles. They will not stay perfect. I guess I am looking at the vehicle as a machine not as an extension of myself. I understand that people want their vehicle to look new for many years, but you can drive yourself crazy fixing every little nick and scratch. People that are that anal just need to by a new truck every year or two. I personally like the fact that there are people like that out there buying new LCs. It just means that there will be lots of cherry used LCs out there for people like me to buy.

Holy crapballs batman- these things aren't perfect? Thanks for sharing the wisdom.:clap::clap:

Holding a company accountable for a defect on a brand new vehicle is hardly anal. Excuse me for protecting my rights as a new vehicle owner. Sheeeez.

Brand new? It appears yours is 2 years old. The defect is a 1 inch crack in a plastic molding that is only visual. On second thought, why don't you try to pursue it through your states lemon laws. I am sure the judge will be as outraged at Toyota's shotty product quality as you are. We all know what a terrible, unreliable product they make. I mean who cares it the truck goes 300,000 miles? This molding crack is unacceptable. I am sure you will win. Hell, the judge might order Toyota to give you a 2008 LX for your emotional suffering because people saw the crack and made fun of you. You could tell the judge about the nightmares. You know, the hundreds of people standing around you calling names like "crackhead" and "big a$$ crack". Dr. Phil will want to bring you on his show to help you work through crack issues on national television in hopes of reaching the 10s of other LC owners with crackafobia. You might even score a book deal to share your horror story whole world. You could call it "My 2 years in hell with crack". That a best-seller if I ever heard of one.

I would much rather have the 80 slider window in the back!

Me too, and mine aren't even cracked! It would be great to be able to reach in to the back through the side rear windows. I know the 80 window would not fit, but that would be a pretty cool retro custom job for someone with a friend in the window business. How about a group buy?
