I just noticed some kind of stress cracks on both rear pop out windows. The part that goes top to bottom on the frontal portion of the window.:confused:

Weird.....

I know when I tow my boat the vehicle take on a much different ride, but not a bump stop ride. I wonder if it's related somehow. I've always considered these windows a weak spot. If you close the door with them open they rattle severely, but I rarely have them open.

Any ideas? I'll snap a picture to try and show what I'm talking about.

I'm thinking Mr. T will have to replace the entire window for this.

same here

I have that same crack on one side, as well as a cracked third brake light above the hatch..... interested in what you find out

Same cracks on mine too. One crack on each side, somewhat close to the middle of the strip. Just noticed it the other day, since I saw it on both sides I figured it was supposed to be that way, but I looked closer and the cracks are a little jagged and not exactly in the same place on both sides. Very weird.

Got one too, on the driver's side. Was thinking about claiming it under warranty since there's obviously no impact marks to have caused the crack. Worth a shot, I guess...

No cracks on mine however last night when I was trying to figure out HTH all the dust gets thrown in the rig from the rear I checked the screw on each side wing window that holds the latch mechanism to the glass 'nut'...and both sides were loose; no lock washer and now in retrospect I should have put a drop of blue loctite on them . I also was able to gently squeeze, with a pair of channel locks, the u-shaped holder (for lack of a better more descriptive term) a bit thus tightening the whole rattl'n assembly. It did mostly eliminate the rattling issue with the rear wing opener...

And...it seems wing windows do allow some dust to migrate past the weatherstripping. I didn't see an adjustment for the compression setting on the wing window and/or mechanism?

Here's the picture. There are several more than the two you can see.

2 in the right side, one in the left.
I have only opened the windows once when I first purchased the vehicle 4 1/2 years ago!

So nobody has ever challenged the quality? Maybe it was too late for you guys because you're out of warranty. I know it's minor and still functions properly, but I won't put up with it. It makes sense now because it is a bad design. I'm still under warranty-I'll report back after the dealer gives me the run around.

I have at leasttwo cracks per side..

Yeah... It appears these cracks are just a cosmetic issue though, but I wonder what causes them ?

The old thread had a few replaced under warranty but if the damage isn't functional then I doubt Toyota will feel obligated to warrant it. This isn't really even a cosmetic issue.

You are more likely to run into long term problems from the dealer installing the replacement part then from the current hairline crack. Dealer techs are not as proficient at installing a given part as the assembly line workers and they are putting it in out of the optimum assembly order. This can lead to other problems (trim fitment ect..) so I wouldn't have it done unless you see a major advantage.

I totally agree. If mine gets fixed it will be up to Cdan and I. Besides, with my luck a week after I fixed it some kid would accidently throw a baseball through the same window.
