My 99 got a crack on the driver side right down the middle about a year after purchase. dealer replaced the whole window(one piece) as its only comes this way. never happened again.

Quote: You are more likely to run into long term problems from the dealer installing the replacement part then from the current hairline crack.

X2-
Worrying about this seems like much ado about nothing. Since we all had to go look for the crack, it can't be too big an issue. I agree with the above quote. The window would probably leak air or water in half the cars fixed...if we wanted to wait for the dealer to order the parts and then wait for them to work you in.

Agreed if I had a 98 or 99 or even one just out of warranty I would probably think the same thing. But, what kind of testament is it that toyota can't design a window frame that can last longer than a year and a half? I bought this rig for quality and to me quality at this level is more than a great engine and drivetrain. Plus, It's multiple cracks and looks like s**t.

hi new to the group....

just purchased my 2000 TLC....so far no cracks...hopefully it stays that way....

this forum is great! tons of info! :grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp:

thanks so much!

No cracks on mine, although they do rattle like hell? I open them almost every time I drive the truck. Maybe I'll try to squeeze the U- shaped holder mechanism thingy...

99LX.
Use ‘em at least once a week. No any cracks (yet), but annoying rattling when they are open.
Is there any chance they may interfere with doors?

my 2003 has a crack on the drivers side one...

x2. Just noticed a crack in about the center of the driver's side of my '03. Right side is still crack-free for now (knock on wood). CPO and extended factory warranties don't cover anything cosmetic or any part that includes window glass. They are basically good for electronics and mechanicals only. Stealership wanted $905 to replace the window ($627 for the window + 2 hrs labor). Dream on! I think I can live with it, especially if the other side is likely to crack, as it seems it is.

Has anyone tried putting some black epoxy putty into the crack? I was thinking about that. The crack is difficult to detect. Who knows how long it's been there. I only knew it was a crack since I checked the other side and it didn't have one! It does crack pretty straight.

In reality, the part should be replaced by a piece of anodized aluminum. Ditto for the plastic piece in the front window that many have reported breaking.

I've used the quarter windows maybe 4x in the 2 years I've owned the rig. Can't even remember the last time I opened them.

We should take a poll on who has cracks (no cracks, 1 crack, both cracked).

X2

I have one crack on the left side. I use my quarter windows all the time. So, far it is only cosmetic...no leaks...no problems. Most of the time I forget its there. I'm sure a creative application of tinted epoxy would solve the problem.

Same issue on my 2006. Driver side on left side frame of pop out window - small hairline crack not all the way across, but you can see it.

If they have to replace the entire window, I will be very reluctant to get it done under warranty. I thought the trim piece would pop off and it would be a realtively easy fix, but apparently not according to other posters.:bang:

Nope. According to the FSM, you have to unbolt the 2nd row door scuff & seat belt anchor, rear tailgate trim, pull up the carpet, remove the lower interior quarter panel, then remove the upper quarter panel. All this, just to get to the window. Now if the guy doing the work were the same Araco employee(s) who assembled thousands of 100-series rear windows/quarter panels, that would be another story.

Well it seems I have another on my passenger side. This one is a complete clean break. Very strange how this would/could happen.
