Rear upper control arm upgrade

^ no. As you lift the rear (viewed from the USDS) the axle housing will rotate clockwise. So, you can lengthen the bottom arms (to rotate the axle counter-clockwise) or shorten the upper arms.

The amount the axle rotates isn't too large since the rear has upper and lower arms, so sort of a parallelogram (though the uppers are shorter, so not quite...).

Years ago a friend an I took a bunch of measurements and he modeled it up with some CAD software so we could see how the suspension cycling affected the overall rotation so we could calculate the length to adjust the lower arms to compensate for a nominal 3 - 4" lift that we were running.

cheers,
george.

Any idea how much, on average, the rear lowers should be extended for a standard Old Man Emu 2" lift on an FZJ80?
Not much if the lift is actually 2”. Probably not worth fussing over.

A2 + B2 = C2 The 2 means “squared”

I seriously need to buy a welder and learn how to weld.

I have a welder and know how to weld...

I need a babysitter so I have time to actually use it, and material to build with. My better half works on weekends quite often.

If you were in Calgary and liked keeping a 2 year old and a 7 year old busy we might be new BFF's, but since your not you may consider finding someone else in the same shoes as I. Or if you have a partner that loves hanging out with kids it might free up shop time for two fellas to work on stuff.

Recently bought steel for lower links, putting a 14 bolt under the 80, gonna move the back axle back about 2" and extend the wheel well rearwards eventually. Had a look at the bushings, I don't think there is one under it that doesn't need to be replaced. might be using that amazon link on page 1 shortly.

I ask because i have a minor vibration in ( I beleive ) my rear driveshaft w/ a 2" lift. I installed adjustable lower control arms, and extended them approx 1/4" , but i didnt make any differnece. I might try extending them out another 1/4".

1/2” would be A LOT for a 2” lift. Easier to install uppers that can be adjusted while fully installed. Drive adjust, drive adjust ......

Have you tried stock length with your lift? Ive been between 2-4” of lift without any rear end vibration. Front is another story.
