@cruiseroutfit the kit only works on the newer 200s that have electric lift gate correct? I thought I read that somewhere and wanted to verify with you, before buying for a 2008
Just the opposite. This works on the LC with the older non-electric lift gate. The Lexus and the later LC with electric lift gate can just use the remote to open the hatch. This kit will work great on your 08.

I'm glad I don't have power tailgate! The electric handle is bad enough, and on top of that there us no way to open from the inside. I use to sleep in my 80 when out and loved how I could get in and out from the tail gate. Not so much the case here
Whatever floats your boat. I enjoy the power everything and use the hatch 2-3 times a day. I car camp just fine too - power open the hatch via the remote key fob from inside the vehicle.
It's the non-powered LC's that have no way to open from the inside and need this mod.
The 100-series hatch was better in this regard. It actually had a manual release from the interior!

Yea so I have no way of opening from the inside right now. I'm lacking the button on my key fob or capability of doing so. Electric tail gate just means 1 more thing to go wrong in my mind.
Yea the 80 series had a manual handle on the inside also. Super nice!

Got my Cruiser Outfitters rear tailgate switch installed last night. Comments below
- Works as advertised. Opens the rear tailgate from the inside. A $1.99 momentary switch would do the same thing, but wouldnt look as nice. This looks like it was there from day 1 which is always nice when cutting up a $80k vehicle.
- Bezel on the provided switch does not play too nice with the trim cover, the trim cover is very thick and the tabs do not click into place nicely. Tried to dremel in a chamfer, didn't make a difference. Ended up using a bit of silicone.
- The wires on my 2015 were THIN and SHORT! Tried to follow the directions without taking the whole tailgate trim off but couldnt get my little sausage links in place.
- Save yourself the aggravation and pull all the hatch plastic right from the get. Makes it so much easier. Start with the piece in the top (3rd brake light) then sides, then bottom.
- Easy to locate and drill the holes for the rear handle with the trim removed. With the fender washers provided, just anchoring to the rear plastic felt plenty strong. No noticeable deflection in the rear panel when pulling the hatch closed.
- The illumination in the new switch is dim. Your switch is not burned out or defective, but the illumination is tough to see with ambient light. My garage is lit up like the 4th of July, so I had to turn out the lights to check the illumination.
- I located my holes 3" up from the bottom of the plastic cover and that seemed to fit and look very nice.
- All in all I would give this kit a B+. Everything is provided but the instructions were a bit vague and sort of jumped around. At least in my mind they did. Fortunately I am pretty well versed in this sort of stuff, but if I had to follow them word for word I would have been stumped a few times.
- Tools needed:
- Drill with step bit or 5/16" and 1/4" bits
- Dremel with cutoff wheel
- Razor knife with fresh blade
- Wire cutter
- Wire crimper
- Wire stripper
- Panel pullers/trim removers
- 14mm socket and wrench
- Lighter or heat gun for heat shrink
- Electrical tape
Great feedback, we've not had much if any comments on the instructions. Help me refine the instructions a bit, where's can we reorder things to make it smoother for future installers?
I pitched the instructions once I got it complete but if you want to email me the file I would be happy to proof them for you. I used to be a tech writer for John Deere and now I do a lot of technical sales proposals so technical writing is sort of my jam. Just wish I had taken some pics during install now.
any reason you couldn't install the switch in parallel in an LX and not have to worry about having the remote in you pocket?
