Long story short, I stripped the spindle threads. Don't ask, it's not important, but I'm dumb. What is important is getting this thing out of my garage. I have a replacement lock washer, lock nut and screws. What is the thread size of the spindle thread? Any tips on fixing this booger without replacing the entire axle assembly?

I see this tool. Can something like this help me? amazon rethreader I can get the nut on easily until about the 4th thread and there is an abrupt stop. TIA

@SpillmanCruiser : Been discussed, IIRC M42 x 1.5 (double check that as I forget) but the dies (kit) you linked above are too small.

Double check the thread pitch:

You could try using a metric thread restorer die:

Or a thread restorer file:

Consider this set for future fubars:

More homework (there will be a test):

Added these links for future reference:

Here's a link for an Outside (or External) Thread Repair Tool:

And a video showing how it works:

Here's another Thread Repair Tool Set that works on OD's up to 6" but the price is crazy:

And another more affordable type but the largest tool of this type/brand I've found only works up to 1-1/2" (38mm) OD.

This topic (significantly damaged spindle threads) hasn't come up much in the past, so tossing out some links for future searches:

Here's another, not that much better.

I don't have the tool, never had damaged threads as bad as the OP's.

Added the links just in case others who run into the same problem and doing a search will more likely find the tool options.

FWIW
