Anyone have a good US part number for some rear brake shoes for a 1982 FJ45 non US model full float.
Shoes are 2" 3/8 (60.325mm) wide x 11" (285.75mm) diameter. Keep finding PN 's with #549 or #346 but no sizing info. I sure I will find them with time just nice to cut to the buy instead of the search.
Thanks

Not sure there is a good US available part number. According to CDan Toyota has tightened up on importing parts for Toyotas never offered here. Did Canada get 45s this late? Maybe a member north of the border could get you some. Or find someone still relining brake shoes.

Oh I'm sure in a matter of time I'll be able to come up with the correct a part number I was just hoping someone would have a wham bam number to save me from doing a lot of leg work but good idear anybody in Canada have a part number possibly

Like I said even if you get a part number unless that part was used on a vehicle Toyota imported here your local Toyota dealer most like won't be able to get the part. This has been the case in last couple of years. Before that CDan was able to get parts out of a warehouse in California that was for parts from other markets. Probably be able to figure a way to get them just not as easy as taking a part number to the dealer and then order them for you.

brakes

Well guys looks as I kind of found some that seem to be okay but for a couple of issues. Found a set at O'Reilly auto parts thanks to a PM sent to me. Now they are not top quality @ $18 and some change but will work until I find a better set down the road. Made in Mexico, with a PN of 549. When looking at them they look almost the same but when compared to the old Toyota set the pad in shorter at one end and the pad is not as wide on the frame as the Toyota but the metal frame of the shoe is pretty much on. This is not a big deal but shows that its is at the lower end of the septum. I went with these due to none in town and had the drums off already. Anyway looks as they are available but I going to check Bendix and few other top names later. Hope this is a help to others that are in the same boat as I. Thanks

fwiw, I just did my full float, and happened to have a us 84 fj60 in the shop and compared rear brakes, guess what, same wheel cylinders, shoes and hardware!

whitey45, yes it is worth it to know that the latter FJ60 used pretty much the same brake shoe in the rear as the 45s. I am going to check with the Toy dealer and get an Idea of if they are available and cost. Also got a PM saying Bendix had the quality after market shoes sets and said that the number 549 was a common aftermarket number for Land Cruiser sets.
Thanks guys

When I bought my truck 13 years ago, it came with a new OEM set of shoes.

I have since put discs on the front and have very seldom had my rear brakes adjusted properly.

Last summer while changing the wheel bearings I replace the rear shoes.

These are the shoes I used. Well actually, this the pair that is left over.

They are the front 3" wide drum shoes that I had also and I to put disc on the front due to the high cost and the difficultly of finding the front shoes. I think that number now ends with a 21 instead of 20.

K are they for sale?

K, what year 45, and is that a full float rear end?

1978 CDN market with a FF rear axle.

On your 82 where is the hand brake? On the rear axle or transfer case? Australia had a number of split cases with a hand brake attached to the back. Those had different rear axle then those that didn't have the hand brake on back of the split case. I have two FF axles from the 4X series. The one with hand brakes has smaller shoes like a 60 series. The other one has larger brakes. The one with heavier brakes is set up for a sway bar. The other isn't. sway bar were on the 45 series. The 40 series didn't have a sway bar.

don't know if you're lucky enough to have one in town, but look for brake reline shops and get your original backers relined.

I have the sway bar with the HB on the case. The cheap shoes came with pins in case one needed to hook to a HB cable, but was not needed. There is a brake reline shoe service somewhere in Nevada I believe that maybe I will be able to reline my old shoes. In all actually, the cheapo set seems to be doing well so far, no locking up and no noise, lots of foot brake height. The Bendix brand (as was told) is the better set to buy, better made, and as close to OME as it can get.

Since your using the other brakes drums send your original out to be relined.

If your is from OZ trying contacting a member to sell if they are still available. Unlike here where we only got the 40/55 series in OZ the 40/55 were imported in smaller numbers and the 45/47 were more popular. Got chance they are still available new. Once your get a good part number check in Canada to see if you can get them in North America.

Also post a picture of you drums. There is a big different in the two styles I have on my FF axles. Heavy duty drums have coolong fins. Does yours?

If they were in fact some super rare shoes there is no way Auto Zone would have them on the shelf. The HD drums that I have seen all had WAY wider brake shoes than those.

Who used the words super rare? I said not all markets were the same.

Auto Zone had some close not a perfect match or this thread would be done.

I would like to know how wide these Way wider brake shoes are? I just measured my FF axle with heavy drums that I believe are from 75-80. It would take some work to get the drum off but looked to have around three inch wide shoes. The other FF axle has the drum off and measured around 2 1/4". This one is a 8/80 and later 40 series axle not set up for a sway bar but with hand brake.

To the OP call Marv at SOR and ask him about your brakes. He has imported enough of these parts and has been in the cruiser business for over forty years.
