Hey all,

The vehicle is a 2014 LX 570. There’s a bit of rust on this wire bit my Google-fu is very poor on naming parts.

Does anyone know what this part is, and if it can be removed easily for maintenance or replacement?

Otherwise, I was going to create a jig to rust cure and repaint it after sanding off noticeable rusted areas after removing the bolts and mounting brackets.

Thanks!

I would not try to remove it. It’s under tension as the tailgate support spring. Just take the advice of @stonepa and hit that area with rattlecan Fluid Film and it’ll be fine.

It's a torsion spring that keeps the lower tailgate from slamming down when you open it. It would be pretty difficult to remove, you'd have to remove the entire tailgate.

Thank you!

I did buy some Wurth SKS Stoneguard as that's what my undercoating product is per my shop's work.

If that's the case, I'll def try to do a little bit of sanding and maintenance on it with a rattlecan.
