I too had grand designs to put the integrated rear foglamps in my lower tailgate. While overseas, I'd always call local wrecking yards and choke on the prices they want for USED car parts over there. Then I also looked at my inner tailgate and realized there were no brackets and that precluded using the factory lights. They attach to brackets tack welded into the European tailgate for a clean look. Briefly considered a surface mount type, which Hella sells but was concerned about aiming them properly since the tailgate surface isn't perfectly vertical. In the end, I'm happy about the Hella pendant style (100?) I've been using all these years - cheap, perfect reliability and fast install.

I'm not sure (legally), but I would imagine a link is fine. I believe he is a professional photographer, hence the notice on his pics. I would post the link, but I was too lazy to go back and find it...

The easy use of images in this forum and the large percentage of posters that use them is one of the main reasons for visiting this site. The e-mail and text based forums are quickly dieing out even though there are many LC experts that hang on to LCML and 80sCool. On the text sites, sometimes the poster has to go into intricate descriptive text to convey a simple concept that a picture easily show.

Interesting. Those are easy to duplicate surface mounts. The ones I saw (Germany or Holland?) were flush mounted.

OK..
there is a lot of s***E going on on this JAOS rig (that i dont agree with or like ) but, here is an alternative place to put the rear lights (on top).
Dont know what you think..but, it could get the creative juices flowing....or maybe the puke juices!

I already have a rear worklight (detachable) mounted on my rack, but I'd like to keep the fog light on the bumper.

Does anyone know if Hella makes a surface mount fog light like the one on Jim's (old) rig? The only ones I've seen are the styles found at rallylight.com.

Just to clarify, this thread is about rear fog lamps, which are RED and used in foul weather everywhere but the US to warn following drivers in extreme conditions. I keep seeing white fogs posted, so thought I'd clarify for the color impaired.

MOT, if you want a real man's lamp on the rear get a Hella FF worklamp - twin 55 watt bulbs and the beam pattern of your choice. Plus a swivel mount, both up and down and side to side....

The Koito one I had posted on the last page actually was a rear fog, even though it does not look like a conventional one, being a projector and all.

I've been procrastinating, but I guess I've come to the point in my life where/when I need to decide if I want to stay a sissy or become a real man. HELLA does sound like my ticket to manhood

Being a projector or not a projector doesn't determine whether or not it's a rear fog lamps. Being designed and sold as a rear fog lamp is what determines it. There are specific required outputs, width of beam, and obviously color. I hope I'm not coming across too picky on this, but the Koito PES lamp you showed on the previous page was most definitely NOT a rear foglamp for the simple reason that it's white. Turning a front fog lamp toward the rear is simply a fog lamp mounted backwards - heh.

Anyhow, be a man and stop messing about with non-Hella stuff

Just so I wouldn't end up looking like an idiot(Iknow, too late), Koito says that the projector is for rear fog application. So it must have been designed as one.

Anyway, I'll delete all of my light-related bookmarks, except HELLA. It'll take me a few days, I'm afraid

Hmm - strange. I see that in the English title, but it doesn't make sense to me. I've seen Japanese products using various marketing phrases in English that were hilariously inappropriate before so perhaps it's just another example of that. On the other hand, it may well be they make one with a red lense or red mask (the PS means it's a Polyellipsoid System design from the Germans, which uses an internal glass mask to shape the beam) using the rest of the light unchanged. It would be a royal pain to mount/aim on the rear from the look of the base.

I'm hoping to get to bed soon, in fact I think I'll take your advice and go at this very moment. Goodnight, MOT... heh.

Based on the above dimensions , would our 80's tailgate have sufficient depth to accomodate these lights ? Not sure .. just wonderin ... oh WAIT a minute ! I'm thinking of my old 4Runner with the wind-down glass tailgate !!

I used to have mine on the roofrack. Really like them up there and will be moving them back up once I find them (in the garage somewhere :whoops: ). FYI - I do not encourage wheeling with a street tire on your roof. - I was in a rush and forgot I'd tossed it up there for a few days for some other stuff I was doing

Nor do I encourage highway travel with a cooler on the roofrack . I had just assembled my new roofrack on my 4Runner years ago and decided to take a boogy on the hwy . ******* lid flew off at mach 1 . :whoops: :whoops: :whoops: Thankfully I didn't end up being sued 'cetra . Ripped the lid clean off it's hinges ...
