Rear facing winch

I've been mulling over the movable front/back winch idea.
No definite solution in mind yet, but I think it could be done far more compactly than using the trailer hitch, if it was purpose built instead of adapted.
Liking the idea of semi permanent front bumper mount, but un-boltable for temporary rear dock.
Maybe 2 hefty bolts, possibly the M22x2.5 pins used in 3/4" size shackles.

I had to do this once, but without the forethought of being ready for this deployment. Ruined my fairlead, bent the bottom lip of my bumper, ruined my cable, but I got out.

If you are wheeling in the forest, this may be possible. I live in a desert, a single anchor point is frequently a luxury.

Besides having a witness to whatever “awesomely stupid” -thing you did to get stuck, this is why a 2nd rig is mandatory IMO.

Unless you’re “loaded for bear” recovery-gear wise & detest other people, that 2nd rig / people can be a trip-saver.

Instant pick point for your winch, and you can choose where that pick point is positioned.

I once saw a Dakar race larger truck with a winch setup with hard points under the vehicle that let them deploy the cable to several points of the compass. I tried to find it again but could not. IIRC they could hang pulleys under it along the rocker area and other key spots as well as straight back or straight ahead. Wish I could also find the one where they had essentially a long board that could be attached to the rim alongside the vehicle for soft ground recovery. When they hit the gas the board (heavy steel actually but just for visualization) would press down and lift the vehicle, then push it forward as the rim rotated. Kind of like duck feet over and over lifting and moving the truck forward using the power of the wheels.

As for your first point, meh.
And to your second and third points-
Sometimes.
And to your overall arrogance:flipoff2:

Oh, trust me- the way I go, I need that 2nd rig, heck, sometimes a 3rd.
And I became a master rigger because......uhhhh, well, refer back to my ‘style’. o_O

No arrogance here - and even with a extra rig or 2, a tree usually is in my pull.

I’m not crazy about alot of people, but when you are dumb enough to find a way to bend a FR axle shell.....well, you can connect the dots, and broken parts.

I removed the factory spare chain winch and bolted up a winch plate between the frame rails just behind the rear axle.
Mounted an offset Superwinch Husky 10 on it and fed it through a steel hawse on the rear x-member
Well hidden and sits higher than tailpipe, so no departure angle issues

These are actually old photos.....

I've since removed the tailpipe, added a dump after the muffler and ditched the adjustable pintle hitch for a 2" receiver tube that actually bolts directly to the winch plate

Also, I had a friend who had a PTO winch in the rear of his 40 series. Electric in the front, PTO in the rear. I'm not sure if this is a possibility for the 80 series though, but I thought I would throw this out.
This won't work on a North American spec 80. Where there is a removable plate on the transmission/transfer case assembly to add the PTO in other markets, all we get is a blank spot.

Two potential solutions (neither cheap or easy) are getting a non-US spec transfer case shell or entire working transfer case and install it OR (possibly) machine the case in order to create the necessary port.
