How does one go about removing these exterior vent grills without destroying them??? Ive discovered they are leaking and need to replace the o-ring on the plastic tabs...

LoI great picture👍

There are some threads on removal subject try searching again.

Fwiw its held in place by two nuts so interior panel has to come off to access them.

Looks like its just the rear upper plastic piece that needs to come off... here goes nothing!

Now that ive got that info... can anyone help me source the tabs with the O-rings? Id rather use OEM before i look at alternatives.

AFIK They don’t exist separately- and the duct assy is NLA.

Mcguyver time

Let’s a some pics of the worn sealing surfaces.

Also make sure your rear sun roof drains are clear- they might present leak in the same area as the cowl vent-

Checked all the usual suspects. The water was entering thru the rear vents and then draining down to the front pans… one side was missing two seals so off to the hardware store to source some new rubbers…

Wanted to update the thread. Finally found the leaky culprits. The lower exterior rear window trim… horrible design by Toyota. There are holes drilled directly into the sheet metal that the trim clips into using body panel tabs w neoprene washers. Well, those were shot so I made some new ones from Ace hardware. I decided to remove the rear windows for easier access and to clean things up a bit. Pressure washer tested and no leaks! I decided to do the other side too as a precaution since everything was already apart.

thank you for posting this. I am chasing a leak in my rearmost driver side area, sort of under the rear glass panel. I re-sealed the 3rd brake light, checked the weather-stripping around the liftgate, confirmed the sunroof drains are clear, and I have tackled the very difficult to remove rearmost belt molding section, pulling up the trim and putting a bit of silicone sealer under the belt molding clips. I still have a leak, and the last thing it could be is the rear vent. thank you for the pictures.
